Coles of California Swimsuit Shop Main Street

One of the stores that did not last very long was Coles of California. Coles was a designer and manufacturer of swim suits and other beach wear during the 1950s and 1960s. This of course was a little incongruous in the setting of Main Street, to shop for swim trunks, bathing suits and bathing caps at a theme park. The store was located where the north entrance to the Candy Palace and seating for Coca Cola now exists. I do like the Mermaids in the window display that look like they came from the Peter Pan ride.

It seems difficult to believe that this shop sold much merchandise. Bathing suits? Of course I always did like wearing a nice bathing cap, even when I'm not going swimming. The great thing about shops like this is that they helped to make Main Street feel like "real" small-town street. I would like to add that I am a big fan of the comments left by anonymous!

This picture is great. I love the old "real" store photos on Main Street. Do you have one of The Wizard of Bras? I always wanted to see a shot of that store.
Thanks for all your hard work btw. I visit daily! :D

I love this image! I love this store! I don't think it's incongruous at all. A California Main Street and swim-wear? Perfect!
