Aiprlane View of the Disneyland Hotel

Photograph taken out of an airplane circling over the Disneyland Hotel in late 1955. The Hotel has guests and more buildings appear to be in the midst of construction. In the lower right hand corner is the Richfield Service Station and in the upper left can be seen the Disneyland parking lot (dirt) with busses and cars parked and the very edge of the berm and a structure which may be the Frontierland Railroad Station (tough to tell.)

Nice early view. Any idea what those circular structures are near the pool?

That is indeed the Frontierland Train Station - and a lone boat giding through the Jungle Cruise. You might notice, also, the single unit tram at the intersection near the Richfield station. Great shot.

What a great shot. Love the Dhotel pics. The Coral Club is just coming into it's own.

Thanks!

The circular structures are wading pools for small children who cannot use the regular pool. They were part of the Coral Club which included the pools, shuffleboard and golf putting. You can see the grassy area for golfing to the left of the large pool.

This is also a great shot of the Little Gourmet Restaurant which is just below the Richfield Service Station. This facility was opened from an existing ranch house already on the property and was used until the Gourmet Restauarant opened in early 1956. They kept the facility there until 1958 but it was primarily used for storage after the Gourmet opened in 1956. You can see construction activity on the administartion building as well as the Hotel shops and restaurants. There is also construction on the North parking lot.
