1958 Views of Town Square

The final series of three photographs from the same trip featured all week is these images of Town Square and Main Street. As you can see, the lamp post signs all advertise the newly opened Alice In Wonderland attraction. Some nice views with unusual angles, and I do not know what the driver is doing in the last shot!

Two Views of the Motorboat Cruise

Two more photographs from the train photographer. The first is of the Motorboat Cruise taken on the train. An unusual view of this long shuttered and fondly remembered ride. Slide is marked Disneyland (boat rides.)

The next image is taken from the exit of the Fantasyland Autopia showing the ride signage for the Motorboat Cruise. Slide is simply marked Disneyland.

Tomorrowland Autopia Track

The photographer of these images was riding the train when he or she took these shots. The first two are labeled Disneyland (Rocket) and do show the Rocket to the Moon, but also give us a view of the original Autopia Track without the center barrier. The shots are blurry since the train was moving at the time the images were photographed.

The third image is marked Disneyland (Auto Rides.) A nice view of the Tomorrowland station and a view not often seen of Tomorrowland.

Mice at the Front Gate

The photographer of today's post did not get very far before shooting pictures. The first image is of the line for tickets. Heading out into the parking lot the line reminds me of lines of today out into the esplanade.

The next series show Mickey Mouse greeting people, both inside the gates and just outside the gates. In the first photo, the lady appears to be holding a Kodak 8mm movie camera.

Here is Mickey outside the gate with the Monorail beam in the background.

Finally a nice family portrait of Mickey and Minnie.

Sunday Mish Mash of Photographs

For Sunday a nice mish mash of various photographs. The first is of the rarely photographed bench in Fantasyland. I love the colors of the bench (and that the bench was unoccupied at the time.)

The second shows the cactii (is that the right plural?) forest in Nature's Wonderland.

The final image is a dusk time image of the Teacups from the Skyway. There is something very melancholy about the image, the fun of the ride but the end of the day and the fact everyone will be leaving soon.

As Seen From the Skyway

Several photographs snapped from the vantage point of the Skyway. Just sit back and enjoy the gentle ride, just remember to keep your hands and arms inside the ride, and no throwing of pennies out of the car!

Souvenir Friday- Inside Disneyland September 1969

Inside Disneyland was an employee's (cast member's) newsletter mailed out on a monthly basis from 1967 until 1971. The newsletter was similar in concept to the current Disneyland Line. This issue is from September 1969 and features a great article on the opening of the Haunted Mansion along with some information for employees.

New Tomorrowland 1967

Today's post focuses on the New Tomorrowland of 1967. The most fondly remembered Tomorrowland and one that I yearn for in my memories. The first image shows the Monsanto Adventure Through Inner Space building with the fantastic planters with cacti and other exotic plants.

The second slide shows the interior of the ride.

The final image is of the Peoplemover track between the Circle Vision theater and Adventure Through Inner Space. It is interesting that the Peoplemover cars are all blue in the photo.

Signs in the Night

In 1973, a photographer decided to take some shots of the brightly illuminated signs on Main Street. And I thank the anonymous photographer for taking the time. These are great shots of signs that are now gone. I like the Citrus House but my favorite is the Hills Brothers Coffee Gardens.

Rivers of America

The photographer enjoyed the scenic element of the Rivers of America and focused on the river, the stately Mark Twain and the canoes. The first photograph shows the old entrance to the Mark Twain and Columbia docks. I like how close the line for the Burros and Mine Train is to the line for the Mark Twain. The design definitely added an energy, much more so than the big trail and the fry wagon of today.

The second image shows the river, the Old Mill on Tom Sawyers Island and the old New Orleans section of the river. This reminds me of the image seen in the National Geographic taken in the same spot.

The final picture for the day is of the Indian War Canoes trying to capture the Mark Twain. It looks like they will not be successful this time.

Some Random Images

Today's post is three random images. The first is the New York flagpole located at the entrance to Tomorrowland. I am assuming the photographer was a New York native.

The second image is of a family. The poor boy looks like he scraped his knee and has been bandaged by the friendly Disneyland nurse. This image is one for Charles Phoenix with the mom, the son (who looks kind of like Pugsley from the Addams Family) and the matching outfits on the daughter.

Finally a spectacular shot of the 1967 Tomorrowland from the Peoplemover.

The Fantasyland Viewliner

Today's sole image is for my fellow blogger, Viewliner. A spectacular speeding image of the Fantasyland Viewliner streaking by...

Just one question, why was the Fantasyland Viewliner Blue and the Tomorrowland Viewliner Pink? I always thought of Fantasyland as a pink land and Tomorrowland with more of a blue hue.

Nature's Wonderland Railroad

One of the rides I miss the most is the Nature's Wonderland Railroad. A fun, scenic and relaxing ride through the deserts, forests, caves, and scenic wonders of the Frontierland of Anaheim. The humor added by Marc Davis enhanced the experience. Big Thunder is fun and an approximation, but nothing like Nature's Wonderland. I always thought of Nature's Wonderland as a Jungle River Cruise on land. So just sit back, keep your hands and arms inside the car and enjoy the ride.

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Marshall Badge 1950s

A nicely designed stamped metal badge with a simple pin enclosure from the early days of Disneyland and Frontierland. The mystery is was this sold in a playset or was this sold individually? I have found three of these badges over the years and have never seen a Disneyland Marshall playset. In images of Marshall Lucky, it appears he is wearing the same badge....

The back is double marked with a copyright for Walt Disney Productions.

This does bring me back to days of playing gunfighter with my brothers.

Main Street 1956

After entering into Disneyland, the photographer snapped some shots of the Main Street vehicles. The first was the Horse Drawn trolley with the horse wearing a straw hat. I hope it protected the horse from sunburn.

The camera bug then snapped a photograph showing a nice overview of Town Square as seen from Main Street Station.

The Entrance

Two views of the entrance to Disneyland. The first image shows a crowded day with a very tall gentleman standing out front. Also of note is the separate entrance for strollers and wheelchairs, Dave better stay away from the turnstile.

The second photograph shows the entrance at a slightly less crowded time although it is the same day. The large sign up on the left hand side of the photograph advertises George J. Keller and his felines.

Two Views at Disneyland

From a collection of 1956 slides, two photographic views of transportation within and outside of Disneyland. The first image shows one of the green Rainbow Mine trains coming out of the tunnel and into the station. The sign over the tunnel is very cool, reading Caution Explosives Do Not Enter R.M.R.R. Co.

The second photograph for today is of the Disneyland Hotel tram (single car) dropping off guests at the main entrance. What a wonderful color scheme for the tram.
