Ghost Town on Main Street

Two views of a very uncrowded Main Street taken circa 1960. I long for days at Disneyland with this few people in the park, of course Disney does not. First up is a great view of the Red Wagon Inn with no guests in sight.

A few people in this image of Town Square, but not too many. This view really shows how the design of Main Street gives the image of a town that extends a distance.

Things From the Gate- 1973 Disneyland Advertising Brochure

Moving into 1973 the brochure was changed. First change of course was ticket prices. The transportation options were changed and the biggest change was the addition of the Walt Disney Story to the brochure. Enjoy.

Motor Boat Cruise Damaged Slides

Sorry about the quality of the slides this time, but I kind of thought they looked cool. Also it has been a long time since I have posted any images of the thrilling Motor Boat Cruise. I do enjoy the cast member uniforms and the freshness of the ride.

At the Pancake House

Two nice views from 1959. First up is the Omnibus with the 1959 New Attractions banner on the side. Note to Dave at Daveland- stroller alert!

Next up are grandma and grandpa with Aunt Jemima at the pancake house.

Souvenir Friday-Horse Drawn Trolley Original Art

Many years ago Howard Lowery auctioned off a series of original art used for the advertisements in the Main Street Horse Drawn Trolleys. Most feature the original park sponsors. This art advertises Carnation milk and Ice Cream which sponsored the Carnation Ice Cream parlor and restaurant.

They Went That Way

Two views of Tomorrowland taken approximately in 1960. First up is a great view of the Tomorrowland Skyway station. I like the row of attraction posters on the bottom of the structures as well as the popcorn lights and vertical striping on the stairway.

Next up an image from in front of the America the Beautiful Circlevision theater. The kid appears to be re-enacting his favorite Bugs Bunny scene- they went that way! Check out the sign posts in the background and the nice Monorail attraction poster.

World's Fair Wednesday- 1933 Chicago Part 1

The 1933=34 Chicago World's Fair does not get enough attention as it should. The fair was a great fair and had a nice Art Deco design to the buildings and the souvenirs. This series of images come from a postcard folder which feature nice renderings of the various attractions. First up is the Chrysler Motor Building and Test Track.

Next up is a view of the Romantic and Colorful pageant "Wings Of A Century". After World War 2, this was the site of the Chicago Rail Fair.

Final image is of the amusement area. The rendering shows one of the most fun looking amusement areas from any world's fair. The caption reads Enchanted Island, glorified playground where parents may leave their children.

Pirate Ship and Characters

The final two images from the group of photographs that included all the Submarine Voyage and Tomorrowland photographs. First up is a view of the Pirate Ship.

Next up is a funky image with over exposure of the two dog characters signing autographs in front of it's a small world!.

Things From the Gate- 1972 Disneyland Advertising Brochure

In 1972 Disneyland added a new land and updated their advertising brochure. The brochure is dated 9/72 and features the new land Bear Country and the new attraction Country Bears. It also appears you could no longer take a helicopter to Disneyland.

Tomorrowland On the Move

Two nice snapshots showing what Tomorrowland used to be, a dynamic and moving land. Notice there are no passengers in the Peoplemover.

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Classics Dye Transfer Animation Print

In the mid to late 1960s, Disneyland produced and sold prints of animation artwork. Most of the characters and animation art chosen was from the classic films. This is one of my favorites, Chip and Dale. The art is very nice and high quality. The label on the back is nice as well. Other scenes in this series include Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Bambi and Thumper, Dumbo, Tinkerbell, Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket, and even Winnie the Pooh. The original retail price was around $3.00.

The Submarine Voyage Lagoon

This particular visitor enjoyed and was entranced with the lagoon for the Submarine Voyage. I believe he (since the majority of the photos from today and Tuesday are of the live mermaids) was trying to get a good picture of the mermaids. First up are two images of the mermaids sunning on the rocks.

World's Fair Wednesday- Pepsi Cola It's A Small World Press Release

The 1964 World's Fair featured the classic attraction It's A Small World. Sponsored by Pepsi Cola to benefit UNICEF (United Nation's International Children's Emergency Fund) was created by Imagineers at WED. Pepsi Cola published this press release to promote the attraction. Enjoy the eight pages.

Submarine Voyage Seawolf

Two nice views of the old gray submarine Seawolf in the lagoon of the Submarine Voyage. I miss this paint scheme...and the ride with the Disney touches. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Finding Nemo attraction but the old subs are part of my youthful memories. Check out the Peoplemover in the background.

Things From the Gate- December 1970 Advertising Brochure

Just a couple months after the previous advertising brochure the ticket books were changed. Several of the rides changed their ticket designation, Sleeping Beauty Castle going from an A ticket to a B ticket and the Mine Train going from an E ticket to a D ticket...although the mule ride remained as an E ticket. Brochure has a date code of 12/70.

More Sea World

A couple of more Sea World images. First up is tailgating in the parking lot to save some money. Disneyland does offer a picnic area outside of the Main Gate if you want to bring your own.

The next image is the family heading away from the Dolphin and Porpoise show. I like the building in the right background.
