3 Views of 3 Amusement Parks

3 random views of 3 different amusement parks. First up is a view of the sign at Marineland, the World's only 3 ring sea circus.

A great image of a colorful tea cup ride in a Mexican amusement park. This is a cute little ride.

My favorite picture is from Belmont Park in San Diego, in front of the bumper car ride with the roller coaster in the background.

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Cartoon

My brother found this a couple of months ago...it is a fun cartoon by Dick Shaw that probably appeared in the Orange County Magazine. Dick Shaw was a long time animator starting at Disney in the late 1930's and then working for UPA on many Mr. Magoo films. Mr. Shaw was a resident of Newport Beach. The tag line on the cartoon is: We've been lost all day trying to find Disneyland...so we're going to tackle it tomorrow when we are fresher!

On another note, a friend of mine runs a nice website for those who enjoy scrapbooking. The site also has historical discussions about Disney, Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The site is Mousescrappers.

Sea World 1969

Three views of the San Diego theme park Sea World from 1969. First up is a nice image of the entrance ticket booths. The Polynesian theming is very evident by the large A frame structure as well as the beams with the nice outer details. The beams look like an outrigger canoe.

A view of the Japanese Pavilion. This is where the pearl divers would dive down and pick up an oyster which you could then purchase and get to keep any pearl in the oyster.

Last image shows the Dolphin show with the cute pirate ship and the tiki in the middle of the lagoon. The volcano was a great special effect.

World's Fair Wednesdays- A Couple of Views From Brussels

Two quick views of the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. First up is a nice view of a Gothic tower in the gardens.

A view of the pavilions with the Atomium in the background. I like the motor transport in the foreground.

2 Views of Frontierland

Today's post features two snapshots of Frontierland. First up is the Mark Twain heading out on another trip around Tom Sawyer's Island on the Rivers of America. The Columbia meanwhile appears to be undergoing some maintenance.

Next up is a great view of the old Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer's Island. Quite an interesting tableaux...in the upper left hand corner the boy (Major Pepperidge as a youngster?) is getting ready to pour his drink on an unsuspecting guest, the man in the middle holding the merchandise bag is checking his echo at the well and the family on the right hand side is perusing a souvenir map to figure out where to go next. I also like the sailor in his uniform.

Things From the Gate- 1970 Disneyland Advertising Brochure

In 1970, Disneyland changed the graphics of the advertising brochure. One of the fun changes is to use each of the Dwarves to accent a point about the amenities at Disneyland. Also, the interior images feature the new attraction the Haunted Mansion. Brochure is copyright 1970 and has a date code of 6/70.

Posing Around the Park Part 2

A couple of more images featuring the family posing at variouos sites. The first shows a single person posing on the Mark Twain. Check out the clothing on the background visitors, lots of bright colors, plaids, textures and more.

Next up is the obligatory group shot in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The 70's had such wonderful fashions!

Disneyland Trip Report- Timmy and Alice In Wonderland

While waiting to get on Alice in Wonderland which had just shut down due to movement inside the ride, one of the guests in line asked about the shut down and mentioned that it must have been a ghost. The cast member then said that the attraction was indeed haunted and the ghost was Timmy. Timmy is a ten year old boy who likes to step on the pressure pads to shut down the ride. The cast member related her story of how she was alone after the park had closed and was shutting down the ride. However, the pressure pads kept going off as Timmy kept stepping on the pads, causing issues. In honor of Timmy and the cast member, here are some images I took of Alice in Wonderland. The changes to the outdoor ride structure in case of emergency evacuation.

Loading a caterpillar.

The mushroom and current version of ride poster.

Exit sign with the handicapped entrance graphic. (The graphic reminds me of the band logo created for the movie High Fidelity.)

Attraction sign describing the adventure that awaits riders.

Trip Report- Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel July 16

Since I am in California visiting Disneyland for the 56th Birthday, I headed to Trader Sam's Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel. It is a nicely designed and decorated bar with drinks suited for a tourist spot (way too sweet and kind of gimmicky.) Here are a few shots. First up the exterior:

Doors to the entrance from Oceanic Arts.

Lovely light.

One of the best design pieces are the tiki's at the bar, based upon the chanting Tiki Room poles.

More design elements with a great megaphone. One of the character stories for the bar is the skipper Skip and this is his megaphone.

The view of the patio at torches at night.

Yours truly in the bar.

1973 Tomorrowland Event

Some sort of event that happened in Tomorrowland in 1973 was documented. The dress code appears to be business attire. Hey Jason- what does the nomenclature say for events in 1973?

Some interesting lines on the pavement and folding chairs to sit on. It appears this was at the Tomorrowland Stage. Notice the Flight to the Moon building in the background.

A nice shot of the great architecture and the lovely planters.

Souvenir Friday- 1957 Disneyland Hotel Rate Sheet

Nice rate sheet with Tinkerbell graphics from 1957.

And a cool photo of the old Disneyland Hotel sign. The photo is much later than the rate sheet.

Indian Dancers

What else can be said about these that Major Pepperidge has not already said?
