Vintage Lakeside #2

More vintage images from Lakeside Amusement park. First up is a clown (Clown Alert!) meeting the young visitor. The tower in the background is very nice.

A nice kiddie airplane ride. I love the pylon for the ride with the military airplane markings.

Souvenir Friday- Fantasyland Ephemera

A couple of interesting items from Fantasyland. The items are very ephemeral and also very cool. First up are a hang tag from the Arts and Crafts shop located in the Sleeping Beauty Castle. I love the graphics and typography of the tag.

The next piece is from one of the early performers at Disneyland- Chris Fair. Chris is still a practicing magician. His website is located here along with information from Gorillas Don't Blog .

Vintage Lakeside #1

Last night one of my photograph dealers came by with images for sale. This group of images from Lakeside was included. First up is a nice shot of the young boy standing next to the giant blocks.

Next up is an image of the young boy posing on the back of the caboose from the Lakeside Railroad.

And here he is at the front of the train.

Final image is of the boy on one of the Flying Dutchman which is a ride that flies in a circle and the vehicle can be made to go higher by turning the rudder.

World's Fair Wednesday- Buildings

First up from the 1964 New York World's Fair is this view of the Fiesta area with the IBM Pavilion in the background. The Fiesta was a village of kiosks where many countries sold various folk art items. Unfortunately the photographer pointed the camera towards the sun.

Next up are two images of the General Motors Futurama building. First up is the outside of the building with the expressway in the foreground.

And a view of the entrance.

Final image is my favorite areas for the New York World's Fair...Sinclair Dinoland and the US Royal Tire Ferris Wheel. This is the spot I would run to first when the time machine is perfected.

Things From the Gate- Sidewalk Superintendent 1962

Disneyland underwent a major construction project in Adventureland in 1962. In order to promote the new attractions and explain the construction, the Disneyland Marketing Department created this brochure. I like to call it the Sidewalk Superintendent brochure. Not only does it explain the construction, but also makes the construction an attraction to see. Of course the reason I like this brochure so much it is the first descriptions of the Swiss Family Tree House, Tiki Room, Tahitian Terrace, New Orleans Square, Haunted Mansion and the Thieves Market which became Pirates of the Caribbean.

Riverbelle Terrace Existing Conditions

More images from the group of photographs used to document improvement projects at Disneyland in the late 1960s and early 1970s. This documents the current conditions of the buffet style kitchen at the Riverbelle Terrace. Comparing the images to today's Riverbelle Terrace, it does not look that much different.

December 1966 Jungle Cruise and Indian Village

Classic images of the Jungle Cruise to start with, the first being the alligators protecting the Cambodian Shrine.

Next up the African Veldt with the Zebras, Gnus and Giraffes.

Final image is of the Indian Village as seen from the Mark Twain.

Souvenir Friday- Pencil Pouch

What every well dressed kid at school needs, a Disneyland pencil pouch. Great graphics on the front...

The back pouch is classic for us collectors, especially number 1 and 2.

1968 Sea World San Diego

A visit to Sea World in 1968. A double image showing Shamu (look in the right hand area for a ghost image of spectators in the stands.)

Another shot of Shamu, this time jumping out of the water.

A couple of nice images of the landscaping around the Japanese Pavilion.

Final image is one of the Pearl divers.

World's Fair Wednesday- Various Views of the 1965 NYWF

Some various views around the 1965 New York World's Fair. First up is a picture of the Unisphere made by US Steel and representing the theme of the fair, peace through understanding.

A night view of the Unisphere with the lit fountains.

Next up is an interior of the United Kingdom Pavilion showing the kitchens and food of the country. I like the toy soldiers on the table.

The last shot is definitely one I would not have taken, the Dynamic Maturity Pavilion sponsored by the National Retired Teachers Association and American Association of Retired Persons. One of the highlights of this pavilion was free refreshments from 2 top 5 PM in the "Patio 55" on a daily basis.

Knott's Berry Farm 1955

A visit to the Ghost Town the year Disneyland opened. First up is an image that is in every Knott's Berry Farm photo collection. It looks like the lady on the left is really speaking to Handsome Jim.

Things From the Gate- Main Street Staying Open Brochures 1965

Two neat brochures used to alert guests that Disneyland's Main Street would stay open until 8 PM for your shopping and Dining pleasure. The earliest one mentions the new Plaza Inn with the Penny Arcade as an attraction.

The newer version is similar, but has different attractions (the Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad) as well as a different advertising for the Plaza Inn and Plaza Pavilion restaurants.

Twain and Tomorrowland

Four nice shots of the Mark Twain running around the Rivers of America. First up is a shot of the wild life on the river banks.

Next up is a shot of the Twain and the Gullywhumper with construction on Tom's Treehouse in the background.

The wheel house....a very nice shot.

Final image of the Twain coming in to the dock with the very bare landscaping in the background.

A couple of images of Tomorrowland from the same visit. First up is the entrance with the flags and the Ice Cream vendor.

Final shot is the center of Tomorrowland with the Rocket and those lovely light fixtures.

Souvenir Friday- Foto Holders

Some unused Foto Holders from Disneyland. First up is a specific holder for VIP visitors to the Upjohn Pharmacy. I love the advertising touch on the reverse. This holder is unused,never having seen a photograph.

This one is also unused with no photograph. The folder was for a lessee who was in Fantasyland. The back of the folder specifically describes the attractions in Fantasyland circa 1955 (note the attraction is Canal Boats not Canal Boats through Storybook Land.) Jason- a new lessee for your database.
