Opryland 1975

Traveling to a park I never experienced, Opryland USA located in Nashville, Tennessee. Based upon the theme of American Music, the park featured thrill rides, themed areas and lots of shows. The first images show a musical extravaganza on the stage themed to a showboat called the Opry Belle. The show looks like it was quite entertaining.

One of the main attractions was the Wabash Cannonball. A steel double corkscrew roller coaster manufactured by Arrow Dynamics.

Nice... too bad this park isn't still around. I almost never see photos of this one!

I remember seeing this stage in Robert Altman's Nashville. It sounded like a cool park.

Opryland USA and AstroWorld certainly seemed to get the short end of things.

Thanks for that blast from the past! We lived across the highway from Opryland for a couple of years, just a year or two after these photos were taken. I had forgotten all about that stage, but I do remember seeing the show there now. It was big excitement for me to finally be tall enough to ride the Wabash Cannonball - that was my first major roller coaster.

I grew up on Opryland and was sad to learn of its closure. In a piece of delicious irony, though, the suppermall with which they replaced the park was flooded so badly several years back that it has only recently fully reopened.

This was the "new" boat built for the 1978 season. The original from the park opening was torn down after the 1977 season and replaced by the one in your picture.
