Well, I am no expert, but I've never seen anything like this at Knott's. It's a great vintage kiddie-park image though!
Maybe it's something cool like Beverly Park!
That sure is a lot of steering wheels for one boat!
This wasn't a Knott's attraction. I'd guess it was part of one of those roadside kiddie-lands you'd sometimes find in the parking lots of shopping centers. Or maybe this was at a carnival. In any case, I'm guessing this whole ride was designed to be disassembled and loaded onto a truck.
You can rule out "Beverly Park" aka "Kiddieland", which stood on the corner of Beverly Blvd and La Cienega from 1946-74 (where the Beverly Center now stands). I know every inch of Beverly Park and the boat ride was completely different (in size and shape), plus the circular water-trough was much wider. As you can see by the photo (taken in late 60's, early 70's?), there's a grassy knoll and a concrete wall in the background, neither of which were at Beverly Park, not to mention the fact, that in the photo, there seems to be quite alot of empty space to walk around, which is contrary to Beverly Park's fairground, which was way more congested with benches, tents and other rides in close proximity of eachother. Whatever this place is, it looks pretty fun for a small kid.
I believe it was taken at the little Lake/Park beside Knott's. They had paddle boats I think and a couple other kiddie rides.
You walked past the large brick building (Independence Hall?) and under/beside the freeway or road and into this picnic area. I know they had a food booth, popcorn, hotdogs and cotton candy.
We always fed the ducks in the really dirty lake/pond.
I agree with Jay Jennings this is not Beverly Park.
