Italy and George Washington At 1939 NYWF

Italy was trying to be a world power in 1939 with the Fascists in power and wanting to impress the world. The pavilion featured a large statue of the goddess Roma (who appears to be a scholar/warrior) and a great water feature with Italia featured prominently.

The second image features the large statue of George Washington surveying the Trylon and Perisphere. I like to call this the backside of George Washington.

I've always especially loved that Italia pavilion with the waterfall in front. It looked really amazing at night!
