Nell and Belle- Calico Saloon, Ghost Town Calif
I love it when older folks pose with the figures at Knott's Berry Farm. I do not remember seeing the suitcase in other photographs of the same spot.
I don't ever remember seeing that suitcase either! I wonder what the story is on it and the names Nell and Belle? Haven't we been told over the years that these ladies names were Marilyn and Cecilia?
Even though these gals were based on the real Marilyn and Cecelia (two Calico Saloon performers), they were originally called Nelle and Belle, then later the Calico Belles, then eventually Marilyn and Cecelia. That suitcase was actually there for quite a while. The gals even spoke through a small speaker system! It's always nice to see them regardless, especially since Knott's has kept them out of sight backstage since May 2009, which is odd because touch-ups and repairs usually don't take that long.
Thanks for the info, Jay. I've wondered what happened to them. I hope Cedar Fair is taking good care of them. Never knew about the speaker system either!
