Red Snowsuit At Santa's Village

Some cute images of the visitor in a red snowsuit at Santa's Village. She definitely enjoyed the park.

Santa's Village Entrance

For the next week, I am spotlighting Santa's Village. It is Christmas in June to think cold thoughts during this heat in Denver. First up is the sign over the entrance to Santa's Village.

Next up is the guard house at the entrance. I love the striped pole for the stop sign.

Marineland Stadium

I do not show much of Marineland as I do not find many photographs and they are usually the same subjects. However, these are pretty nice showing the main show with the aquatic performers. First up let's meet up with our friends and feel the excitement of going into the stadium.

Next up are three slides of the show with the trainer. Be sure to look at the background scenery and the watching crowd.

Random Disneyland Pictures

Some random Disneyland images from 1971. First up a view of the Matterhorn, Monorail and the Skyway. Man I miss the Skyway!

Next up is an image of Sleeping Beauty Castle, which always makes me smile and remember the good times I have had at Disneyland over the years.

Final image is of the motorized Fire Engine on Main Street.

Although not showing rare or unusual views, these photographs remind me of my childhood.

Rainbow Mine Ride Attraction Script Circa 1956

Although not very graphic, this two page mimeographed attraction narration is very rare. Prior to Nature's Wonderland, there was another Mine Train that went through the Rainbow Desert and Rainbow Caverns. The driver of the train would use this script to narrate the trip. I love the little touches noting the other rides seen in the desert and the other rides a guest could enjoy in Frontierland. Note the scenic elements carried over the Nature's Wonderland such as the various cacti in the shape of animals and dwarves.

More Santa's Village

More images from a Santa's Village trip. To answer a question, the Lake Arrowhead and Scott's Valley (Santa Cruz) look very similar. The Lake Arrowhead (Sky Forest) location was larger and had some more rides. Also, the Sky Forest location lasted longer. Now to the pictures which are from the Sky Forest location. First up is a nice shot of a deer in the petting zoo. This is a great picture of a cute deer.

Next up an interesting image showing a peacock standing on a fence. I like that each end of the tree branch is colored.

A great image of the Toy Shop with a large wooden soldier standing guard. The sign reads like a game of scavenger hunt.

Last image for today is of the oversize jack in the box. I do miss this park and all the other Santa's Village and other Christmas themed park. I am glad that within driving distance is the North Pole park in Colorado.

Having Fun at Santa's Village

Three views of a fun trip to Santa's Village. First up is an attraction that may not be that exciting and kinetic, but as a kid this was a fun attraction. A themed slide is always fun for the children and this one looks like the structure is almost ready to fall over.

Next up is a view of the Candy Kitchen with the clock reading about half past April. I love the pipework for the chimney and the lovely mushrooms.

Final image is of a very happy dad who has made it to the North Pole. He can note the time he made it with his fancy wristwatch.

Blurry Images of Frontierland and Tomorrowland

Today's images are of the same family that visited Knott's Berry Farm in yesterdays posts. The photographs are blurry, but they do show the seating for the guests who watched the Indian Village Dancers. The seats do not look that comfortable but are themed well.

The kids did get to ride the lovely Pack Mules Through the Rainbow Desert. The daughter is affecting an entertaining pose.

Final image is of the Autopia in Tomorrowland, and who does not like a vintage photo of the Autopia?

Knott's Berry Farm in Black and White

Four nice black and white snapshots from Knott's Berry Farm in the late 1950s. First up are the two kids posing on the rock work which I believe was opposite the pan for gold attraction.

Next up is a shot of Mom in front of the Medicine Show stage.

Third image is from the Indian Village once located at the lagoon. The trees are very nice in this image.

Final image is my favorite, the real volcano moved in one piece from the Mojave Desert. Too bad there is no image of the devil who worked the volcano.

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Advertising Poster

Today's souvenir post is a nice unused advertising poster from the early 1960s for a party at Disneyland. I believe this may be for a Date Nite at Disneyland with the mention of the ticket book and private dance party. The cute graphic of a couple on the Tea Cups is very nice.

Three Views From 1971

I am stuck in 1971 this week with images from a photo album. First up is a view of the Dwarves marching by Alpine Gardens (where the Monsanto Home of Tomorrow used to sit.) Nice view of the Plaza Inn in the background.

Next up is a view from the Skyway with the Carousel in the foreground and Fantasyland dark rides and Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background.

Final image is of two icons, one remaining and one removed. I love this photograph showing both vertical attractions, the Matterhorn and Rocket Jets. I believe this was taken from the stage that was located where the Magic Eye theater is now located.

Residents of the Jungle Cruise 1972

It has been a while since I have posted pictures of the Jungle River Cruise. These three show residents of the attraction. First up is the elephant shower, hogging all the water.

Next up is the hunting party celebrating the Lion Kill or they are dancing the Hokey Pokey.

Final image for today is the trapped safari who will get the point in the end.

Main Street Views From 1971

From the same set of photographs of Skyway Views in 1971 are these three views of Main Street. First up is a view of Town Square with the Opera House and Wonderland Music in the background. Note the two drinking fountains in the foreground.

Next up is a view from the Emporium towards the Magic Shop, Tobacco Shop and Cinema.

Final image is a look on Main Street with the Omnibus navigating the crowd.

More Views From the Skyway 1971

Three more views from the Skyway in 1971. First up is a nice view of Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Fantasyland walkway. Off in the distance is one of the Disneyland Hotel towers.

Next up is a view of the Storybook Land entrance with a nice shot of Monstro and the Lighthouse ticket booth.

As the Skyway car starts its descent to the station, you see a nice view of the Tuna Boat. It appears a little rehab is taking place.

Views From the Skyway 1971

Three nice views of Disneyland from the Skyway. First up is a nicely posed view of Monorail Red sitting in station. I miss the nice palm tree foilage and greenery in the front of the Monorail station and Submarine Voyage.

Next up a nice view of the Submarine Voyage with the Matterhorn and Small World walkway in the background. Looks like it was a very busy day.

Final image for today is the old Matterhorn Swiss Cheese hole which allowed the Skyway to pass through the mountain. Like several people, I miss the openness of the Matterhorn during this era.

Souvenir Friday- Tahitian Terrace Special Menu

An unusual special menu from the Tahitian Terrace. Featuring some of the artwork found on the large size menu's but only one page and a limited selection of food items. This may have been for a special event. I like how the beak of the bird comes into the white part of the menu.

Two Unrelated Photographs

Two fun but unrelated photographs. First up is a nice image of a model hanging out in Fantasyland. I love the pin up look with the short shorts and the bullet bra. I have featured this model in prior posts. The back of the photo is stamped Please credit Jacques Delanger.

Next up is an image of the Firehouse Five Plus 2 on screen. The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: Look at him step...Van Johnson dances the Charleston to the strains of Dixieland Jazz by the famed Firehouse Five Plus Two in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayers's "Grounds for Marriage." Co-starred with him is Kathryn Grayson but here Paula Drew steps out the Charleston with the star. The comedy was directed by Robert Z. Leonard and produced by Samuel Marx.

South Seas Island POP Postcards

My favorite area and ride at Pacific Ocean Park was found on the South Seas Island at the edge of the pier. The Mystery Train ride rivaled the Nature's Wonderland Mine Train as well as the Calico Mine Train. I would like to find interior images of the ride. The first postcard features the line and loading area of the train ride.

A closer view of the load area. I like the carved Tiki poles in front of the A-Frame structure.

Final image is an artist rendering of one of the big show pieces in the ride, a ride through the interior of a volcano. I doubt that this was as impressive as this concept art, but it still sounds fabulous.
