Monorails at Seattle Part 2

Some more technical pictures of the Seattle Monorails. First up one of the cars in the station. Not as pretty as the Disneyland Monorails, but still a nice look.

A view of the truck and drive system for the Monorail. This is an image with the skirt removed and shows the way the bogie is attached and runs against the rail.

Final image is of the driver's seat and controls.

Monorails at Seattle Part 1

One of the main reasons the Disneyland employee was at the Seattle World's Fair was to document the Monorail built by Alweg that went through the city of Seattle. First up is a view of the Monorail station.

Next up is a shot of the beamway going through the city.

Final image is a shot of the steel beamway in the city.

Seattle World's Fair Construction Part 3

Some more views of the construction for the Seattle World's Fair. First up another view of the stadium. I believe they raced motor boats in the trough that is under construction.

Next is a view of the fun zone with the brightly colored poles.

Seattle World's Fair Skyway

Three images of the Skyway vehicles used at the Seattle World's Fair. These were taken by a Disneyland employee who was on site during construction to look at the attractions including the Skyway and Monorail. Note the vehicles were fully enclosed due to the potential weather concerns in Seattle, even during summer.

Seattle World's Fair Construction Part 2

More construction images from the Century 21 Exposition. First up is a shot of the United Science Exhibit. I love the arches used for the Fair.

The next two snapshots are of the stadium built on the Fair grounds. This stadium is still used to this day for football games and other events.

Seattle World's Fair Construction Part 1

From the Seattle World's Fair in 1962, known as the Century 21 Exposition, are these snapshots of the site under construction. These are all from the fun zone. First up a neat image of Autopia style cars ready for the crowds.

Next up is a shot of one of the carnival style rides being set up.

Another view of a scrambler type ride. I like all the hearts in the background.

Souvenir Friday- Pacific Ocean Park Souvenir Bag and Postcard

For souvenir Friday, a small souvenir bag that once held postcards. I like the graphics on the bag with a nice seahorse and the unique POP font.

Here is an example of a postcard which may have been sold in this bag. A nice rendering of the park as seen from the air.

Sorority Visit to A Wet Disneyland 1963

Three snapshots of what appears to be a sorority visiting Disneyland. It looks like it was a wet and rainy day...with the ladies wearing overcoats. First up a large group pose in front of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship. Check out those great sunglasses.

Prior to smoking areas, you could just sit down and smoke a cigarette.

Last image is of the ladies being devoured by Monstro the Whale.

Disneyland Ambassador Sally Sherbin and Friends

A nice publicity photograph of 1968's Disneyland Sally Sherbin and King Louis the Ape and Baloo the Bear. The publicity tag on the reverse reads: Touring California--Disneyland's pretty 1968 Ambassador Sally Sherbin and her friends King Louis the Ape and Baloo the boisterous Bear, are off on a swinging tour of California in connection with Disneyland's annual "Fantasy on Parade." They will appear at__________________ on December_____________ at _____________.

World's Fair Wednesdays-New York June 1964

Four snap shots from a June 1964 visit to the World's Fair in New York City. The family had a couple of cameras with them, one shooting black and white and one shooting color film. First up is an image of the Schaeffer Center, sponsored by Schaeffer Beer, a New York Brewery.

Next up a night shot of the Avis Car Rental car ride. I believe this is still in existence at the Centreville park in Toronto Canada.

Next up is an action shot from the African Pavilion. I like the large dolls.

The best image from the batch is important to Disney fans, an interior shot of the Carousel of Progress final act. I like that there is a cat sitting on the couch. You can also see that they reworked Father a bit before premiering at Disneyland.

Two Views of Frontierland 1956

Two interesting views of Frontierland. First up is a snapshot of the Pony Stockade that used to sit behind the stockade entrance to Frontierland. This is where Marshall Willard P. Bounds had his spot and is basically the location of the Frontierland Shooting Gallery.

Next up is a nice photo spot in Indian Village. I know everyone has seen the dancers, but there was a spot in front of the teepees where guests could snap a photo and pose on various stumps. I love the kid in the right sticking his tongue out.

Gepetto's Village Storybook Land 1956

More views of Storybook Land Canal Boats first up is two pictures of Gepetto's Village.

Next up is Alice's church.

Final image is of the Old Mill where the animals took refuge in the storm.

Storybook Land Canal Boats July 1956

The newly opened Storybook Land Canal Boats (a month old when these photographs were taken) sparkles in these black and white snapshots. First up is a nice view of Toad Hall with Cinderella's Dream Castle in the background.

Next up is a view of the Dream Castle on the hill.

The last image is of the Dwarves Cottage in the forest.

Souvenir Friday- Cafe Orleans From Sara Lee

A nice souvenir size menu from Cafe Orleans located in New Orleans Square. A very cool menu with a nice little pictogram story on the back regarding the history of Sara Lee. I have not seen a Cafe Orleans menu in that size.

So a Band Walks Into a Bar....

The follow up to yesterday's post...here is the band that supported Dick Harwood in his role as the traveling salesman. Even though dressed in period costumes, the look is definitely 1980s.

So a Traveling Salesman Enters a Bar.....

A nice publicity image of Dick Hardwick as the Traveling Salesman from The Golden Horseshoe Review. The role was originated by Wally Boag. When Wally retired in the early 1980s, Dick Hardwick stepped into the role and history. The chosen background for this publicity shot is Big Thunder Mountain.

Grad Nite 1966

Two souvenir photographs of Jack and his date for Grad Nite 1966. It was quite an era with skinny ties, sweaters and Jackie-O style dresses. And the dreamy look of lovers was quite the rage. Both of them do look happy, I wonder if they stayed together, got married and had their requisite 2 kids, dog and house with white picket fence? Or did she join a commune and is now a Women's Studies instructor and he is a Vietnam Veteran and a retired Police Officer?

Two Views of Disneyland in 1958

These two slides were also in the same batch of the slides I posted yesterday showing the Rivers of America. The first is a nice view of Town Square with the banner advertising the opening of the Grand Canyon Diorama.

Next up is a shot of the Chicken of the Sea ship from the Skyway. I wonder if the long streamers seen on the right hand side of the image have advertising for Chicken of the Sea?

Rivers of America Scenes

Three slides featuring the Rivers of America and the ships that ply the dangerous and wild river. First up is a nicely framed image of the Columbia in dock with the Keel Boat getting ready to launch. The framing is from the bandstand which once was the place to hear Dixieland on the river.

A rather long distance view of the Mark Twain as she approaches the dock. Even from a distance, the ship has a nice look.

Final image is the way Dapper Day attendees should dress, especially nice white gloves and a strand of pearls and sunglasses.
