Trip Report Great Escape New York Part 3

One of my favorite vignettes at the Great Escape was the 3 Little Kittens. The sculpting on the figures is very interesting. The yellow cat reminds me of the Popeye character The Jeep.

Souvenir Friday- Yellow Monsanto Home of the Future Brochure

From 1958 is this brochure for the Monsanto Home of the Future. Similar to the green brochure I posted a week ago, this one has some different graphics and different layout. Always a fun and interesting brochure to look at to see what the future was going to be. I am still waiting for this home, flying cars and a personal jet pack.

Trip Report Great Escape New York Part 2

A nice attraction at the Great Escape is this Alice in Wonderland Walk through. You walk down a slope that is covered to look like the rabbit hole and then enter a room where everything is larger...then exit and walk back up the hill with all these great fiberglass characters. Finally you exit under an arch made out of the living flowers. Very cool and as you can see, some interesting sculpts of the characters. First up is the rabbit and the hole.

World's Fair Wednesday- Pepsi at the Fair

Two images showing the Pepsi Machines at the 1964 New York World's Fair. The first is a nice publicity image showing Mickey Mouse selling Pepsi to visitors.

The second image is of the Pepsi machine outside of the Pavilion with the wonderful bubble buildings in the background.

Trip Report Great Escape New York Part 1

I don't usually do trip reports as I do not have the photography skills that Daveland does, but I recently took a trip to Lake George, New York. Located there is a Six Flags amusement park called Great Escape....the park was once known as Storyland and Ghost Town. The park dates back to 1954 when it began as a storybook land filled with houses and vignettes featuring Mother Goose characters. Luckily the houses are still there to be explored. First image is of the entrance sign.

Final image for today is of this poor employee. She was representing Cinderella and basically stood all day long and never really had any one talking to her. I asked her how she became Cinderella and she said the park management just chose her as she was originally a ride operator.

Things From the Gate- 1965 United Airlines Brochure

A nice brochure from United Airlines and Disneyland for the Tencenniel. A nice colorful brochure featuring great color photographs and advertising information. My favorite picture is Walt Disney on the back cover.

Santa's Village Postcards

Continuing the Christmas in June postings with three postcards from Santa's Village. I like the Pumpkin man hanging out.

Second postcard shows the Matterhorn roller coaster with the characters riding the attraction.

Last image shows Santa reviewing the good and naughty list....I wonder if I am on the list?

Santa Claus California

Christmas in July....two postcards from the roadside attraction that was once on the 101 Freeway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. First postcard shows the interior of the store filled with great cookie jars and other Christmas items.

The second postcard shows the exterior with the iconic Santa Claus on the roof and a great miniature train that runs through the parking lot. The other great item is the sign with reindeer and Santa's sleigh.

Souvenir Friday- 1957 Green House of the Future Brochure

Great little brochure from the House of the Future showcasing the many vendors who supplied items used in the house. It is interesting that a lot of the vendors were also sponsors of other attractions throughout Disneyland.

Frontier Village Postcards

Nice interior image of the Silver Dollar saloon. I believe the saloon had similar acts to the Knott's Berry Farm saloon.

A great little ride once at Frontier Village is antique automobiles. Always a fun ride, this one had nice theming.

World's Fair Wednesday- Pepsi 1964 New York

Pepsi sponsored it's a small world to benefit UNICEF and promote peace and understanding as well as children's charities throughout the world. First up is a great image of the interior of the attraction. Note the photographer standing on the right hand side.

Next up is an image of the employees chosen to host the attraction. Van France and Disneyland Human Resources were used to hire clean cut teenage and college aged employees.

Summer Time Fun

Summer is the time when many carnivals travel the United States, setting up in small towns and even big cities. First up is a nice view of the roadside Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox with a carnival in the background. I can not tell where this Paul Bunyan is located.

This next image is a favorite of mine. I believe this is at Fairplay or Leadville, Colorado in the mountains outside of Denver. The rides look fun and the storm clouds add a dramatic element.
