Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Hotel Monorail Sign

Today's collectible for the Souvenir Friday is a sign that once hung at the Disneyland Hotel. During the 1960's a guest of the hotel could pay 75 cents and get to ride the sleek Monorail from the Hotel through Disneyland and back. The sign is self framed and painted on a piece of Masonite. (The sign is currently hanging on my wall in the Dining area which is themed to Tomorrowland.)

Finding and owning a sign like this is great, but it is better to find a vintage photograph featuring the sign. Check out the upper right hand corner of this lovely Christmas image (the ladies are decorating the Disneyland Hotel with mistletoe.)

Man that brings back memories. You could still do the monorail round trip when I was a kid. In the 80's we would sometimes go down to the hotel, get ice cream there at Maisies or eat at the Monorail Bar and go on a ride. Good times.

What an absolutely fantastic piece of Disneyland history. Just fantastic. I am glad that you own this wonderful sign. But it's to bad that there isn't some kind of Disneyland museum in the Anaheim area that would house this kind of memorablilia. But I must admit that if I owned it, I wouldn't give it back. :-)

Awesome sign! So could you ride the Monorail "thru" Disneyland and not pay for admission to the park since you are just passing thru? Reminds me of the Transportation Center at WDW, I rode the monorails all over for just the price of parking...

You are so right Matterhorn... the sign is great, but having the vintage photo is really amazing! Fantastic item.

I remember about ten years ago some Guests were on a no-admission ride in the nosecone from the Hotel when the Monorail broke down in the Park. They were allowed to stay without charge!

Matterhorn, since your dining area is themed to Tomorrowland, do you have a bunch of self-serve vending machines?

Would the monorail run from the hotel thru the park on the days DL was closed?

Anonymous, I've heard a recorded announcement that played at Disneyland's Main Entrance on the off-season closure days ("Hi folks. It's a little quiet around here.") It indicates the Monorail is available for roundtrip tours from mid-morning until late afternoon.

Cool find...both the sign and the vintage photo showing the sign!

I also remember taking round trip rides on the Monorail as late as the 1980's. They would lock you in the rear nose and not open the door when it stopped in Tomorrowland. I remember joking with a friend that one of us should fake illness so they would open the door and let us out!

This sign has been featured prominently on my Monorail page at Sorcerer's Workshop.org
( http://sorcerersworkshop.org/monorail.shtml ) for years.
Glad to know it still exists and in the collection of another TrueFan!

I was on a business trip in nearby Los Alamitos back in January 1995, and managed to sneak over to the Disneyland Hotel for dinner at the Shipyard Inn (which was delicious).

Came back the next afternoon before leaving town and took the Monorail round trip...And noticed that something seemed strange. It took a few minutes but then I realized that they had removed the Skyway since I'd been there the previous Summer!
