Freedomland Slide Collection Part 6

More slides from Freedomland. First up is a slide I should have shown yesterday, an image of Little Boy Blue resting on a haystack. When I looked at the slide yesterday before scanning the slide, it looked like an image of a wounded soldier as seen in the Civil War ride.

Next up is the sister sternwheeler steamship to the American, the Canadian. I showed a nice shot of the American a couple of days ago. Note the Conoco gas station in the background. Conoco was a major sponsor of Freedomland.

Next up are two image of the American Express stage coach ride. Not as scenic as Disneyland's stage coach, it still must have been a thrill for youngsters to ride a real stage coach.

Freedomland Slide Collection Part 5

Three slides of the Danny the Dragon Ride found in the New Orleans Mardi Gras section. The ride was a small single bus train ride themed to a dragon. The first image is of Danny coming down the hill.

Next up is an overall image of the attraction footprint with scary looking Jack in the Box as a scenic element.

A close up of another Jack in the Box. This one reminds me of a crypt with the slab of rock at the front.

Final image is of a Fraternal hall found in the Old New York section. Check out the direction signs in the background. I do like the color in this slide.

Freedomland Slide Collection Part 4

More images from Freedomland in the early 1960s. First up are two shots form the entrance to Freedomland and the New York section. The focus of the images is the Schering Pharmaceutical company Apothecary exhibit. Similar to Upjohn in Disneyland, Schering was a national pharmaceutical company. The building is nice with classic signage.

Next up is an image of the Sternwheeler American on its way. Not quite as large as the Mark Twain, the ride still looked like it was fun and a nice way to see the Great Lakes.

My favorite of this group is this colorful kid riding the King Rex Merry Go Round with the Crystal Maze in the background. The attractions were located in the New Orleans Mardi Gras area.

Souvenir Friday- Heath Biography of Walt Disney

The best part of the Heath collection is this rare booklet with the biography of Walt Disney. The booklet is a portrait of Walt right after World War 2. I hope you enjoy the read of Walt Disney Universal Entertainer A Heath Portrait.

Freedomland Slide Collection Part 3

Today a showcase of images of Old New York at Freedomland. This was Main Street for the park. The theming of this area was New York in the time period right before the turn of the 20th Century. Many famous New York institutions sponsored attractions and shops in this area. First up is a view of the Olde New York Music Shop and the Liberty Hatters.

Next up a couple views of the candy shop, a Fritos snack cart and the Schaeffer Brewery in the background.

A similar view with the Horse Drawn Trolleys which would take you to Chicago.

My favorite is this early image of Donald Trump meeting with Macy executives. Or in reality two of the Freedomland clowns in front of the Macy sponsored exhibit.

Freedomland Slide Collection Part 2

Four more nice pictures of Freedomland from the slide collection. The section for today is from the Southwest area. First up are two images taken from the ore buckets skyway of the overall view of the area. In the foreground is the snack area with the theming of Conestoga wagons. You can also see the home of Elsie the cow.

The southwest are was also home to a good old fashioned shoot out. Here we see the fight between native american's and the white settler. I wonder if they were discussing the breaking of treaties?

Here is the finale of the gun fight, two bad men down. Convenient that the bad men were shot at in the sandy area of the street.

Freedomland Slide Collection Part 1

A Christmas present to myself is this nice collection of Freedomland slides. Some very nice images in this selection of slides. First up is the Pepsi Cola Music Hall in the Old Southwest section. The plethora of signs is very nice and the poor popcorn vendor is very lonely.

Next up is a view of what I believe is the Mexican restaurant located in Old Southwest (although it may be the steak house in Old Chicago.) I like the patio and the lovely water feature.

Totsie was the name of one of the tugboats. You could board the attraction in New York City section. It looks like a fun ride although there is not much guest capacity. The boat reminds me of the Keel boat ride at Disneyland.

The last image is all kinds of fun, with the Chicago keystone style police officer, the boy scouts with their white leggings and the lady rushing with a bag of stuff and then the bright yellow structure.

Happy Christmas to all of my loyal readers. Thanks for the support and comments. I hope Santa Claus brought you what you wanted.

Lumberjack Show Finale

The end of the Lumberjack show. It appears the show had some fun dance routines and the band was dressed in Civil War uniforms.

A nice image of the back of the Mark Twain to leave you with....

I'm A Lumber Jack

I'm a Lumberjack and I'm Okay

I sleep all night and work all day

Four more images of the Lumberjack show. The images show the fun contests that the lumberjack would perform during the show. First up is tree climbing. Based on the photographs there were two teams, one being the red plaids and the others being the overalls.

Next up is log chopping. You can also see the target for axe throwing.

Probably the most fun to watch, because you knew someone was going into the Rivers of the America, was the log rolling contest.
