Space Mountain Under Construction Part 4

Continuing with the set of photographs chronicling the construction of Space Mountain in 1976. The first image is shot from backstage with construction trucks and a security guard checking the parking lot. The roof is quite nice in this image.

Next is an onstage shot of the construction site. This was taken prior to park opening with two cast members in the picture. I believe this was taken from the Peoplemover track. Note the great Rolly Crump designed ticket booth, the Character Shop in the background, the lift for the Rocket Jets and the nice construction wall graphics. Unfortunately the photograph is not close enough to get a good image of the construction wall graphic.

I like that the "Character Shop" sign is visible here. I thought it was so cool. I also remember it being damaged for a while.

I remember walking up to the construction wall and anticipating the thrills to come. I don't think I was ever as excited as I was with the coming of Space Mountain. This is turning out to be a great series. Thanks, Matterhorn.

Great shots and boy does it bring back the memories. I'm having a hard time picturing exactly where that firs shot was taken. My best guess is backstage at the top of the Mr. Lincoln building. I recall a emergency stairwell there. Then again, it's been a long time... KS
