Space Mountain Under Construction Part 3

Two more Space Mountain construction photographs from 1976. First up is an elevated view of the structure featuring the great roof and also the open sides. Note the great modern design on the top of the roof and you can see the ribbed design.

Next up is an interior image with the amount of dirt work for the infrastructure. In the background is an Administration building and an America On Parade float parked.

Space Mountain in Florida was constructed at ground level and is towering. I remember reading a long time ago somewhere that Space Mountain in Disneyland had to begin below ground level and was excavated something like 20 feet to accommodate a smaller and less taller cone to match the more intimate scale of Disneyland. Nice catch spotting the American on Parade float.

So cool, you'd think there would be a lot more photos of Space Mountain construction. Think of the many thousands of people who saw it as it went up; and yet I haven't seen that many pictures of it.

BTW, what you see of the first floor of the admin building is the wardrobe department where CMs would exchange costumes daily through the windows.
