Continuing with pictures of Space Mountain under construction in 1977. The first is a view of the construction project showing some of the backstage structures. I believe the building under construction is either an administration building or one of the large chiller plants that were built to keep the attraction cool in summer. Those with a better idea of backstage will know. Note the cast member in costume standing at the entrance to the administration building.
Next image is from the inside of the building under construction. You can see the large panels are open and these were filled in and also some of the infrastructure for the attraction. Also the trailer for the construction company Zapata Diversified Builders. From a quick search, the company is no longer in existence but they did a lot of large scale construction projects.

Both of these pics are awesome. The first one really has me curious. Hope one of your readers chimes in on what it actually might be. Love the series so far. Hope there's more.
The first picture? To the right is the CM locker room. Thus you see a CM in costume. To the left is the structure associated with Space Mountain. The Admin building is behind the photographer. KS
The first picture is the construction of what would be part of the Space Place restaurant. The angled wall you can see being built is still part of the atrium used for Pizza Port seating and the ramp to Space Mountain. For many years this building housed a Female locker room, before being converted to WDI office space, and finally now being Tomorrowland office space.
At the end of the alley, you can see the round Carousel Theater which at this point was being used for America Sings.
@Anonymous - Thanks so much for the info. With your description, I can now see that it was the Space Place restaurant as I dined there many times when it was open. Also the Carousel building helps too. Thanks again for clarifying.
And actually the locker room housed both male and female...in different sections of course. And it also housed a barbershop to keep men's hair the Disney Way!KS
The building between the new construction and the Carousel Theater (America Sings) is the Missions to Mars building (now Redd Rockett's Pizza Port). The building at the end of the straight roadway (to the right of America Sings) is the rear of the Skyway building. The long building on the right also houses the Grand Canyon Diorama. On the right edge of the photo, you can see the road sloping down to allow vehicles to pass underneath the Disneyland Railroad tracks as they pass between the Grand Canyon Diorama and the Primeval World Diorama.
