Two Views of Frontierland

The first image shows a very barren Frontierland with not many trees and other activities. This shot really looks as if the Mark Twain was on the mighty Mississippi River going through the wilderness. I believe this was taken in 1955 from one of the wagons in the deserts of Frontierland. I believe this was taken in the evening with the Twain parked as there is no one on board.

A nice 1960 shot of the Old Mill with the Matterhorn and Golden Horseshoe in the background. Of course this area is now undergoing its second major change in its lifetime.

If that's the Mark Twain, I'm Mark Twain.

I really don't think that's our boy. However, the canopies are amazingly nostalgic. It's odd how something so insignificant can around such fond memories!

It can't be the Mark Twain,
the smoke stacks don't even match the ones in the second photo!

I once had some photos of Alaska from the 1950's, and there was a port with a line of about 6 sternwheeler riverboats...it was like the image should have been from 100 years ago!

Nope, that's not the 'Twain'. It could be a movie backlot - perhaps Universal City or MGM. And the second photo is flopped. That must have been one hell of a super bowl party!

Hey last anonymous- you are correct about the flipped photo. I have corrected that. So let's here why you do not think it is the Twain...looking harder at it now, I do not think so but still would love to hear everyone's opinion....

hello patrick, the mark twain's smokestacks are located forward of the wheelhouse, the sternwheeler in the first picture has it's stacks to the rear.

I'm pretty sure that this is the same riverboat that you can view on Daveland's blog:

Major - you are correct; this is the same riverboat as the one from my blog. Here is another picture of the Universal backlot confirming that this is not the Mark Twain:

Hey, Daveland - great shot of the Universal backlot. Thanks for giving the link. Love seeing those old PT Boats from the McHale's Navy TV show! This is the lagoon where the series was shot. Obviously, the photo is post series since the boats are high and dry.
