Stuff From the Park Flashback- Mine Train

Quick post before I head off on a work trip....these are two images I posted way back in 2005 at the start of the blog. Both are nice views of the Mine Train attraction. First up is the load area from 1959 featuring the Rainbow Caverns trains and the Pack Mules. In the background is the newly opened Matterhorn.

Next image is from one of the train cars, showing the full train set as well as Rainbow Ridge. Note that each car is named for a different scenic section of the attraction.

I hope you enjoyed this quick post.

This was great to see since I don't remember much about the ride itselt. I know my parents loved it and it was a "must do" attraction for my family on our monthly visits to the Park.

What's that dirt area in the foreground? They weren't running the Stagecoach or Conestoga Wagons anymore, and yet it looks like that's what it's for...

The Conestoga Wagons operated until September 1959, so that dirt area was probably for those.

I wrote a long article about the Mine Train and can read it at daveland.com/nw

I see the right hand car is named "Bear Country".

Was "Bear Country" a region name in the Nature's Wonderland before it became a separate land in the '70s?

Or does this name refer to the Bear Jamboree area?

I remember the yellow cars, so this must date from the mid 60's forward.

Thanks for this, have a good trip.

Anonymous: Bear Country refers to an area of Nature's Wonderland sometimes also called Bear River. The train crossed a high trestle there and guests could see several (realistic) animatronic bears frolicking below. Part of this area is still preserved along Big Thunder trail, though the trestle and the bears are long gone. The Country Bear Jamboree opened in 1971.
