Captain Hooks and Monstro

Two old icons of Fantasyland from 1976. First up is Captain Hook's. Now I know all of you have seen many images of the Tuna ship, but this one shows the changes to the name when Chicken of the Sea stopped sponsoring and Disneyland took it over. One of the biggest changes was the name change instead of Chicken of the Sea, the boat is now named Captain Hooks.

The other icon is still in existence, Monstro the Whale. However it appears from this image he needed some pretty significant dental work with some chipped teeth.

Captain Hooks looks marvelous with its sails unfurled.

Monstro was still struggling with his original teeth here, he has since had them all capped "Hollywood style".

Yes, it does look great with those sails! I'm sure they were very expensive to maintain, and probably needed to be replaced often. I think I've noticed variations in the stripes, and might even have a photo with the sails having black stripes instead of red.

When will Monstro get a dental grille? Something with diamonds, perhaps...

Love the pirate ship, bring it back!!!

Thanks for these.

Does anybody know if Capt. Hook's ship actually had a name in the Disney movie or the play?

I also realized, and was more noticeably missing to me;
The Chicken of the Sea Mermaid Figurehead! Cool pics as always, and see you @ TC!

In the original J. M. Barrie play Captain Hook's ship is the Jolly Roger, which I believe is also true of the Disney film.
