POP Ocean Skyway Ride

A nice snapshot of the really cool Pacific Ocean Park Skyride. Shaped like diving bells with large windows, these sky buckets went over the water along the pier. The view must have been spectacular.

How cool is that? I’ve never seen one up close, kinda funky… Were you sealed in that thing? It looks like if it fell off the cable into the water it would float! Neat post, thanks!

If by "spectacular" you mean "terrifying", I'm sure you're right. GREAT photo!

I always imagined that these would be HOT in the summertime, since it looks like they were entirely enclosed. But I'd sure love to be able to take a ride!

I can tell you from experience that it was a very scenic view hanging out over the ocean and scaring the hell out of you. Especially when they kept stopping. Never knowing when you would get back to land. Great pic Matterhorn.

Wow, I thought I had seen the last of these things. I once went with a girl I liked on that ride and she was apparently raised by gibbons as she insisted on getting the freaking thing swaying wildly (to me at least) so much that I though we would find out if they floated. They were prone to sway in the wind and from the stops and starts so we really didn’t need much help. I am pretty sure my embedded fingerprints are still in the metal of one of those things.

I recall there being an opening in one of the windows for air...but it was a long time ago. And yes, it was also a bit scary. And Barry...hello from a CMHS alumni.
