Souvenir Friday- Matterhorn Coin Bank

One of my favorite souvenirs is what is known to Disneyland collectors as the Matterhorn coin bank. Produced in 1959 and featuring not only the Matterhorn, but also the Submarine Voyage and the lost city of Atlantis. This example is still on it's backing card and has not even had the little hole punched to be placed on a display rack in a five and dime store. I like the advertising on the side to save your pennies for Disneyland. Why no kid ever tore this open and played with it, I will never know. Maybe it was never sold and was dead store stock?

This is one of my favorites too, though I've never seen one with the original packaging. Cool! It's such a simple idea, but entirely original and totally "Disneyland".

I love the art on the backing card--especially how the Skyway goes "through" the Matterhorn.

I miss the skyway. I Ioved that damn thing. I can't look at the matterhorn without imagining holes thru the mountain.

This is a great item and the package is pristine.
Thanks for sharing.

What do collectors pay for that item unpackaged?
