Random Photographs

Three random photographs with the only connection is they were purchased from the same dealer. First up is the obligatory image of the Pirate Ship. It does show a nice detail of the entrance and walkway to the restaurant.

The second image is of the entrance to Adventureland. I really like the decorating touch of the paddles hanging down from the sign. Also it appears the subject of the photo is ready to take a cruise.

Last image is not Disneyland, but rather the Mesker Zoo in Evansville, Indiana. Written on the reverse is: Me & Fannie at Mesker Zoo- on the monkey boat. It (the pool) was dry & we walked out & climbed aboard.

Mesker Zoo? I pay my money to see pictures of Disneyland, and only Disneyland! Just kidding... I like the boat at the zoo, it's a lot more interesting than most zoo photos (sleeping bears, etc).

On dry moats and monkey boats....

Does anybody know the story on the boat? Purely a decorative item, or were monkeys on display here and kept from escaping by a crocodile infested moat? Did they fling poo in anger over their captivity?

Curse you Matterhorn. You raise more questions than you answer...

I suspect the monkeys were usually on the boat, and it is not a particularly hygenic place to standing for a photo....

When I was a boy in the early 60's. That particular boat at Mesker Zoo was painted a pastel blue/green. It was not trimmed out to show detail. One solid getrdone aquagreen. During that time period people were not allowed on the boat. But for a fact Monkeys lived on that boat/ship. Water was kept in the moat. It seems like something was kept in the moat water like...something the Monkeys had deep concerns over, or to be accurate (Raw fear) To prevent them from escape. My brother who went to the zoo with me back then has since passed away. He would have remembered what was kept in the water. Actually, trying to find out what was kept in that moat, lead me to this blog. Any answers, or more questions?

The boat was loaded with monkeys in the early sixties. It was my favorite thing at the zoo.
