Flashback- Aunt Jemima Pancake Races

Disneyland has always had unique stunts to attract publicity. In the early years it was the Ken-L-Ration Dog show, Zorro Days and Pancake Races. More recent events have been the hula hoop record, the million balloons and now for 2010, volunteerism to earn your way into Disneyland. But let's go back to the Pancake Races. Here are several views of the racers behind the scene practicing as well as actually racing on Main Street. The final two images are of the winner and a contestant with Aunt Jemima from Aunt Jemima's Kitchen in Frontierland. I believe some of the film footage was shown at D23.

Pancake races, what a goofy idea. It's like goldfish eating, flagpole sitting, or phone booth stuffing. Do other countries do such crazy things??

I especially like the behind the scenes practice shots, these ladies were serious about this, yet appear to be having fun too. That giant check signed by Aunt Jemima for $100 is way cool!

I think we did chat at your booth a bit about how nice it might be if there were more House of the Future merchandise, and also if there were a nice desk-ssized, detailed HoF replica (besides the super-sized big fig that came out a couple of years ago).

You had a small Sony HDTV at your booth I believe?
Wish I'd known that was you!

Back on topic, I believe you had an Aunt Jemima Pancake House matchbook for sale?

Hrmmm . . . I don't think "desk-sized" was exactly what I meant there. Desk-sized would be the L'il Tykes House of the Future.
