Souvenir Friday- Gremlins Have Taken Over

No, not the 1984 movie Gremlins, but rather the World War 2 Gremlins, Fifinella and Widgets created as part of the never produced Walt Disney animated film The Gremlins. The original story written by Flight Officer Roald Dahl dealt with the mythical creatures who wreaked havoc on airplanes in England. This was the first book by Roald Dahl. This piece was produced in the early 1940s and was part of a series of glow in the dark pictures featuring Disney characters. I do collect World War 2 Disney items as it relates to the military insignia designs as well as Gremlin items, but do not search for them as hard as I do for Disneyland items. For more World War 2 Disney items check out Dave Lesjak's Toons At War blog.

I like how they included a female gremlin along with the guys.

"Gremlins" items have to be almost as rare as real gremlins!

Gremlins items are rare. Here's a partial list of available war era items that I know of:

1) Random House book (British and American editions)
2) Fifinella doll
3) Gremlin doll
4) Widget doll
5) Widget hand puppet
6) "Winter Draws On" Spandules booklet
7) puzzle
8) animation script
9) six page story in the comic War Heroes
10) Lifesaver ad
11) WASP stationary
12) WASP decal
13) WASP leather patch
14) cover of the May 1943 issue of Playthings magazine
15) Fifinella matchbook
16) various WASP yearbooks
17) Family Circle magazine January 1944
18) LIFE magazine July 19, 1943
19) different glow in the dark picture from the one pictured in this post
20) various WASP newsletters - "The Fifinella Gazette"
21) full color heavy stock print of Fifinella inserted into one issue of the WASP newsletter

There are probably a few items I'm missing, but that's a quick list.

Cheers.
