California Adventure- 50 Years Ago

One of the wonders of the newly opened Disneyland was the large parking lot. I see lots of images of the parking lot taken by tourists. Here is a nice grouping of two different images from two different years. One of my favorite games to play with these photographs is to try to identify the cars.

This one is great with the Disneyland helicopter landing.

Also the blog may be hit or miss over the next couple of days as I have closed on a new house and am now painting and moving.

That's the DCA I like! Loving those cars too!

Congratulations on the new house, does it have a Disneyland room?

I think part of the fascination with the old parking lot was its overwhelming size. I grew up in SoCal, and this was by far the largest parking lot I ever saw in a state based on auto travel.

I can only imagine the impression it left on folks from small population states, or east coast states where the price of land made this impossible.

VDT: As I understand it, the entire house could be considered a "Disneyland room." :)

That Willy's Wagon looks exactly like my Uncle Brad's. He loved those things and could fix any little thing that went wrong with them...which sadly was quite a lot!
I guess my old Unc was there that day!

When are you inviting us all over for a party? I will grill the hot dogs! Colorado, that's right next to Glendale, right?
