Walt Disney and Unknown Person Holding a Duckster

An unusual photograph of Walt Disney in a suit and an unknown gentleman in a tux. Walt is holding the Academy Award Oscar for The Alaskan Eskimo which war released in 1953. Behind that Oscar is another Oscar on the shelf along with a Charlotte Clark Minnie Mouse and a Donald Duck stuffed animal. Up on the wall are cel set ups featuring Mickey as a Cowboy and a set up from Ben and Me. The mystery is who is the other gentleman? Did he receive a Duckster or was he just admiring it? The photograph is unmarked and does not even have a date code written on the back.

I've been enjoying your blog for a week or so now as a lurker. Just discovered your blog when a googled "Disney Blogs." Somehow that unknown man looks familiar. Was he an actor perhaps. I can see this man's face in my mind's eye but just cannot place a name. I have put your blog in my blogroll and truly enjoy all the vintage photos. Keep up the great work!

Super never before seen photo of Walt! I always enjoy seeing a "new" photo of Walt, Thanks! Could that white stick be a cigarette? Nah....

Actually... we understand that the photo is of Robert Kintner, President of ABC... on the occasion of signing the 1954 contract that launched the Disneyland television program... and would ultimately fund the development of Disneyland in Anaheim.

Walt is holding one of his newest Academy Award Oscars (for the Alaskan Eskimo - 1953); in this 1954 photo.

That is Robert Kintner. He went from ABC to NBC in the late 50's as president of NBC. He welcomed Walt there in 1961.

He arrived at NBC just before the quiz show scandals. In the movie "Quiz Show" (one of my favorites because it evokes the late 50's perfectly), the actor who played Kintner was dead on.

I'd like to think it was an academy awards show and Walt was the presenter. He liked to have the option of taking a drag inbetween presenting.

This fellow, however, would rather have the Duckster. After all, who wants a lousy statue of a naked man when you can have Donald Duck?!

wow...kitner looks like bruns' twin.

pretty rare to see walt with a cig....usually the studio would airbrush them out of photos.
