Themed Trashcans

One of the best parts of Disneyland is the themed trashcans. Rather than just stick an ugly plain color trashcan in the location, the art directors themed the trashcans to the location. Here are several examples. Guess the location of each one.

I've seen a couple photos from the Park's early years with yellow open-top trash cans! I think the green Fantasyland one is the nicest... I never saw (or have no memory of seeing) the others in Disneyland, so they seem out of place to me--like the old Main Street trash cans.

It's so amazing that A) Disneyland's designers went to so much trouble to make even a humble trash can a thing of beauty, and B) that some photographer was brilliant enough to take pictures of so many examples! Really wonderful stuff.

By the way, like Progressland I've also seen those early open-top trash cans, in both yellow and red, with "TRASH" written boldly on the side.

Loved this post. Just shows the extent Disney goes to make a total experience...in Disney World and Disneyland they have a few 'trick' trash cans now. They TALK to you! They are actually little remote control things and an off site guy talks thru a speaker headset. Really really freaked my kids out! Hey I am a featured Disney fan over at the OC Register! Who knew!

I'm a big fan of Disney trash cans (if that wasn't obvious enough!) and nothing is better than vintage trash cans! Thank you so much for the photos - and thank you to the photographer who had such a keen eye for detail back then!

This was a fun post! It is an impressive collection of trash cans... which is not a statement you say everyday! It just shows the designers' attention to detail. Wonderful!

The Disney designers had a wonderful knack for blending the ordinary with the extraordinary.
These are wonderful.
