Indian Village Dancers 1960s

One of the most popular areas for photographers was the Indian Village located in Frontierland. I have seen several different series of photographs documenting the Native Americans performing their traditional dances to crowds of visitors. Here are a nice set of four photographs depicting one dance troupe. The crowd seems to be very appreciative of the dancing and appear to be totally involved. This is a part of Disneyland that has been lost. Now we have the cartoon version of Native Americans in the form of Pocahontas.

I joke about my own plethora of Indian Dance photos, but they are great! You said it when you mentioned the replacement of the real Indians with the cartoon Pocahontas... back in those days, Walt strived for a kind of authenticity which is now replaced by forced attempts at movie tie-ins. This supposedly makes Disneyland more relevant for children, but I believe that kids are much more imaginative and open to new things than they are given credit for.

Very nice colorful pictures. It was actually very enjoyable to watch these native americans do their dances. It was a good place to relax and catch your breath during a long day at DL.
