World's Fair Wednesday- Four Different Views

Four different views from the 1965 New York World's Fair. First up is an image of the US Space Park with rockets from the space race.

Next up is a colorful image of the Chrysler AutoFare with the largest automobile.

Next up is an overhead view of the Vatican Pavilion and the Belgian Village.

One of the biggest draws at the Fair was the Vatican pavilion with Michelangelo's masterpiece sculpture the Pieta.

I never realized there were so many disparate types of architecture. You have mid-century formalism, some very groovy 70's pre-nightmares, Black Forrest German stuff (reminds me of the "slap dance" in Cabaret) ... and the Vatican pavilion.

I swear, I glanced at that and thought, "Is that a Church???" So I guess it got its architectural message across.

BTW, does anybody know if this is before or after that madman went crazy on the statue with the hammer?

The Pieta is one of the most amazing sculptures, hard to believe it was created when Michelangelo was so young.

Katella, this was before it was attacked by the jerk with the hammer!

Damn Hippies!

(Just kidding, he really was crazy. I remember him saying that he was the Lord Jesus, and he did not recognize the woman as being his mother...)

Well, that should have been a clue not to have whacked the statue. Never break statues of people you don't know, it's just bad manners.

These are splendid pictures, I love the rocket parts.
