Souvenir Friday: Little Friends Send Greetings From Disneyland
Three fun little souvenirs from Disneyland. Cute brightly colored wooden figures of birds and a gnome send greetings. The coolest part of these little souvenirs are the paper tags the figures are glued onto.

Pendleton Exhibit Frontierland
One of my favorite shops in Disneyland was the Pendleton exhibit in Frontierland. The store featured the full range of Pendleton clothing and blankets. Though I never purchased anything, it was fun to look at the clothing and also the decorations inside the store.

Haunted Mansion Exit Sign
An example of the sign painters art is this small exit sign from the Haunted Mansion. The sign features great font and style for such a small touch that most guests do not notice.

My Baloney Has A First Name,
And it's Oscar, and my baloney has a second name, it's Mayer and it sponsors the River Belle Terrace. A wonderful image from the sign photograph collection. I believe this image is circa early 1970s.

Main Street Musicians
Continuing the slides from a day at Disneyland enjoyed by the LAPD and their families. The Disneyland band has broken into various smaller bands and this Main Street band is playing next to Carnation Gardens. Check out the goatee on the drummer, looks like he moonlights in a jazz band or folk band.

Souvenir Friday- Monorail Souvenir Pen
One of my favorite souvenirs is this pen that is a Monorail...and not only a monorail but a Disneyland Alweg Monorail. I assume this pen was sold, but it may have been a give away promotional item from Alweg. Anyone out there have another one of these?

Coke Corner Piano Player and Goofy
A great and scarce interior image featuring the Coke Corner Piano player with Goofy "singing" along. This image is very cool and an interesting view.

LAPD Day Fantasyland Balloon Seller
A nice view of the balloon seller in the courtyard of Sleeping Beauty Castle. I like the balloon seller costumes although I am sure the cast member did not like the costume. In the background is the Tinkerbell Toy Shop.

Welcome LAPD Families
I just ran across this nice set of slides that I have had a long time hidden in a box. The slides were taken when the LAPD had a special day at Disneyland. The first image shows the Fred Gurley at the Main Street Station with the neat banner over the left hand tunnel. The slide captures a rather large crowd.

Souvenir Friday- Figural Tinker Bell
One of a line of ceramic souvenirs sold at Disneyland in the 1960s is this Tinkerbell bell. I like the ceramic flowers on the bell body and also the lovely fabric wings.

Feeding the Goat Popcorn
Well at least trying to feed the goat popcorn, but he appears not very interested. The picture was taken at JungleLand USA in 1965.

Jungleland Elephant Ride
One of the attractions at Jungleland was an elephant ride. The elephant looks like an ex circus animal. The background looks like a set of storage sheds and barns. I know I have some postcards that feature the blonde...I believe she was a lion tamer.

Jungleland 1965 Seal Pool
A very colorful play structure for seals at Jungleland in 1965. Jungleland was a wild animal themed park located in Thousand Oaks, California. The location is now a city park. The structure looks like a steam roller with the drum out front. Based upon the wear, the seals love this structure.
In the background is the station for the Jungleland Express with a great sign at the top of the A Frame ticket booth. The mask is very cool looking somewhat African and Tiki mixed together.

Two Views of Disneyland in 1956
Two somewhat unusual views of Disneyland. The images are from black and white negatives. First up is a backside view of a Jungle Cruise launch leaving the dock. Wave goodbye to the fearless crew and their skipper. The barrels in the foreground which are part of the dock scenic element are nice.
The second image is of Carnation Garden from the walkway to Sleeping Beauty Castle. The view is quite wide open with minimal fencing. Note the black swan in the moat.
It appears I did not reverse the negative so here is a corrected version which will make more sense....

Souvenir Friday- Main Street Vehicle Fob
A piece that has been in my collection for 30 years is this nice enameled fob featuring a Main Street Vehicle. The back is marked for Walt Disney Productions. I believe this may have been for a watch although it could have been sold by itself or in a set with cuff links and tie tack. It is finely made with great detail on the car and nice blue enamel. I can imagine this being in the pen shop on Main Street.

Unknown Location Knott's Berry Farm
Although a rather dark image, it appears to be the barn where the horses for the Stagecoach live. I assume that this was towards the back of Knott's Berry Farm. The photograph was taken during a Christmas holiday visit to Southern California in 1964. I tried brightening up the image without distorting the color and image.
California Alligator Farm
Once an amusement park across from Knott's Berry Farm featured alligators, crocodiles and caimans. The park opened in 1953 at this site and closed in 1986. The animals were moved to Florida on a 707 airliner to live in a private estate owned by the inventor of Nautilus exercise equipment. The images are very dark as it appears that the family visited the park after a full day at Knott's Berry Farm.

Goofy's Car Christmas 1964
One of the highlights of the Christmas Parade in 1964 was Goofy's Automobile. A trick car that looked like a jalopy put together from several different cars. the car could do many tricks. I have heard many stories from Bob Gurr, but I don't remember one where he talks about this car. It was most likely built by the studio special effects crew.

Happy Labor Day- Tomorrowland Cast Member Group Photograph
Before Mission to Mars was changed to Pizza Port, a group of cast members posed for a group photograph in front of the attraction. While you are enjoying Labor Day, say a thanks to the hard working cast members who help to make Disney attractions and parks the magical place we love.

Souvenir Friday- Dumbo Plastic Pin on Original Card
A nice late 1950s or early 1960s souvenir is this fun Dumbo pin. What is great about this pin is that it is on the original card and plastic packaging. Notice on the back that the pin was made in Hong Kong.

Christmas 1964 Parade in Frontierland
A nice you are there as a spectator to the Christmas 1964 Christmas parade picture. The parade used a different route than used for modern parades, starting in Frontierland and ending on Main Street. I assume Honest John and J. Worthington Foulfellow are pulling a float featuring Pinocchio. The crowd looks a little chilled.
Burning Settlers Cabin Tom Sawyer's Island
A nice dusk view of the Burning Settler's Cabin on Tom Sawyer's Island in 1964. The cabin is fully engulfed with flames and the dead settler is in front of the cabin wearing his red shirt and jeans. You can even see the flames reflected in the water. Maybe the cabin will returwith Star Wars land, but instead of Indians burning the cabin down, the Empire will have hit the cabin with their blasters...
(This posting is from Wednesday... I was having some technical difficulties.)
