Tahitian Terrace Part 2

A family dining at the Tahitian Terrace. Photographs are dated 1966. Notice the lovely Rongo statue in the background with a bowl full of fruit.

A different view with the A-Frame in the background, canopy and bamboo architecture.

Why would they have EVER gotten rid of this? I wish I had checked it out before they closed it!

I am very thankful I was able to dine here in the Tahitian Terrace incarnation and was able to take in a showing with my oldest daughter in the Aladin incarnation. Talk about "location, location, location"; one just wonders why?

The Tahitian Terrace was a place we as a family seldom ate at, so most of my memories are pretty vivid. We are not a "join in the fun" kind of people, so we made a point of sitting as far from the stage as possible.

I do see "Mrs. Maui" hanging upside down from the gable end in the second picture. (She is used as the stop for the bamboo clacker on the Maui fountain, and yes, according to Rolly C., that's who she is)

About 10 years ago, they took all the spare Tiki Room statues and began decorating the stores of Adventureland with them. A store CM came up and asked me if there was anything I was interested in, and I indicated Mrs. Maui, saying "Only that guy, and I'd pay a lot of money for it too." (Yes folks, that is a Chicago style bribe.)

Well, to my silent dismay, the CM knew WHAT the statue was, knew WHAT my offer implied, and said in a magically friendly way: "Funny, it's the most popular item in the store and it's not for sale. Maybe Kevin will do a repro of it some day."

The rest of the day at the park passed slowly: I was too vexed with tiki lust to enjoy it.

Oh, Katella! I did not know about the items being used as decorations! Care to give me some into so I can go see them next time I'm in the Park? Please email me!

These pictures are the best I've seen of the TT - I like the table pictures. My one meal there was under the grass awning (away from the stage).
