In 1956 the photographer took a trip around the Rivers of America on the Mark Twain Steam boat. During this trip, he snapped shots of some unusual views of items newly constructed for Tom Sawyer's Island and around the river. This is one of the most unusual showing an early animal figure, a Mountain Lion, on top of rocks set so those on the train and the steamship can see it. He also managed to get in the background the Disneyland Horse farm run by Owen Pope and his wife. I am not sure how long this scenic element lasted, but I have not seen it in any other images.

This shot is really unique. Judging by the height and the little black ball in the lower right corner, this was taken from the Wheelhouse aboard the Mark Twain. This scene use to sit in the bend of the river next to the Friendly Indian Village, but this photo doesn't show the village nearby. It might just be out of the camera angle.
Major Pepperidge, yes you are correct, the Mine Train spiel does mention an old mountain lion that overlooks the tunnel entrance of Rainbow Caverns.
I want to say the rock is now the rock that the Indian Chief sits on and they have filled and raised the Railroad berm.
