Halloween Treats!

My friend, shall we call him Zulu, when he worked at Disneyland took a little trip to some scenes that us mere guests would never be able to enter. First up is a shot from the Birthday scene in the Haunted Mansion.

Next stop was the pigs in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Last stop was on the Rivers of America to hang out with some Native Americans.

I hope you all have a lovely Halloween...be safe while trick or treating!

My Friend At the Disneyland Hotel

My friend loved to visit the Disneyland Hotel when he was in California. Here are several different photographs of the Disneyland Hotel over the years. I like the Marina ones showing the various changes.

An image from the Garden area of the Hotel with some interesting topiary.

The kid's pool at the Hotel. I love the set pieces in the background.

My Friend and His Sister at Disneyland Mid-1970's

More images from my friend. These snaps are from a family visit to Disneyland in the mid-1970's with his sister and mom. First up is the Disneyland ride that was before it's time, the Canoes where you get an aerobic workout just like Cross Fit.

Next up is a view of the Columbia passing by the Tom Sawyer's Island Raft dock. My friend is posing in the queue area for the rafts.

Here my friend poses with his sister and Pinocchio. Doesn't he look cute!

Last image is my friend and his sister posing with the Walrus from Alice in Wonderland. His sister is getting an autograph. There is just a lot of awesomeness in this photograph.

America Sings Part 2

Continuing the tour of America Sings, we move into the Gay 1890's. First up is a barbershop quarted of geese singing a medley She May Be Somebody's Mother, The Bowery and After the Ball is Over.

A big finale for this act set in a ballroom singing Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay.

Final act featured many different styles of music, but ended with Rock and Roll with the song Joy to the World.

America Sings Part 1

My friend rode America Sings in the 1980s and snapped a few images of this fantastic attraction. I have attempted to place the images in the order you would have seen them. First up is Sam the Eagle and Ollie the Owl introducing the attraction.

The second act was down South with the Swamp Boys singing Polly Wolly Doodle Do.

A rousing group rendition of Down By the Riverside finished act 2.

The next act is the Old West with Saddlesore Swanson crooning the Old Chisholm Trail.

Check back tomorrow for part 2.

Signs from 1987

More signs from Disneyland in 1987. (Yes all of the photographs are from 1987 as I checked the back of the photographs.) First up is a view of the short lived Briar Rose Cottage store in Fantasyland which opened in 1987 and was changed in 1991.

Next up is a view of the French Market in New Orleans Square. Still one of my favorite places to dine.

A nice view of the Card Corner (now the Photopass location.) Note the cool First Aid sign in the right hand side of the photograph.

Final image of the lost attraction, Swiss Family Treehouse. I can still hear the Swisskapolka.

Its 1987 and its Disneyland

Four more photographs from my friend taken in 1987. First up is one of my favorite lost food stands, Sunkist I Presume in Adventureland. A great image of the sign. The lovely orange juice and lemonade drinks from this stand is a strong memory.

Next up is a great view of the Fantasyland Pirate Ship and Skull Rock lagoon. A great view that the Disneyland management probably wishes they still had to hold Pirate events.

Next up are two photographs for Kevin Kidney showing two of his favorite characters. First up is Bernard from the Rescuers and then his friend Miss Bianca. In reading the press release information on the promotion for Disneyland in 2013, there will be an old friends week where characters not usually seen in the park will be in the park. I say we start an online campaign to see Bernard, Bianca, Evinrude and all the other characters from the Rescuers, and also the cats from the Aristocats!

All right I totally blew it. Yes the photo of Skull Rock is pre-1983. I will have to ask my friend when he went in the early 1980s! I was basing the date on when he told me he worked at Disneyland and did not even think about what the photograph was showing! Duhh!!!

More Views From Disneyland 1987

Four more photographs from my friend and his time at Disneyland in 1987. First up is a nice view of the outside of the Walt Disney Story Featuring Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln.

Next up is the Market House.

The Main Street Cinema featuring the early Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Final image that is not a sign on Main Street is this nice view of the fountain located in New Orleans Square with the Haunted Mansion in the background.

1987 Disneyland Views

A good friend of mine was going through his family photographs and gave me a stack of images to scan and post. One of the neat things is that he worked at Disneyland in 1987 and 1988. These images are from 1987 and he documented signs and other unusual views of the park. First up is a view of the Golden Horseshoe Review building with Goofy acting out a skit.

A couple of photos of the marquees for a couple of stores on Main Street. First up is the Magic Shop sign.

And an image of the sign for Disneyana.

A view of the salvaged cannon from the ill fated ship.

Santa's Village September 1959

A page out of a photo album with lovely images of Santa's Village in 1959. Every time I post an image of one of the mushrooms, I want to own one even more! The photographs show a lovely family outing.

Disneyland and POP

Three nice black and white pictures of Disneyland and one shot of Pacific Ocean Park. First up is a view of the Tea Cups with all the great dark rides in the background.

Next up is a nice image of Mr. Smee attempting to press gang a couple of kids into Captain Hook's crew.

This is how I sometimes feel at the end of a day at Disneyland.

A view of Pacific Ocean Park next to one of the large tanks from the Sea Circus.

Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor 1971

A themed environment that was once close to many people, Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor was Main Street brought to life. A fantastic array of ice cream treats and sundaes were available. The site of many a kid's birthday party, the parlor offered a free sundae to any child celebrating his or her birthday. After being purchased by Marriot and rebranded into a family restaurant, the parlors all closed. However in 2009, a new investment group with the idea of restoring Farrell's back to the fun 1890s ice cream restaurant has opened several sites in Southern California.

More 1974 Walt Disney World Snapshots

Here are more from the 1974 Walt Disney World Snapshots I posted yesterday. First up is the crowded area around Cinderella's Castle.

Next up a crowded parade with Donald riding in the Motorized Fire Truck.

Most Disneyland fans lament the lost of Nature's Wonderland, and Walt Disney World fans lament to the loss of their version of the Submarine Voyage, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Here are two nice images of the very themed submarines. Unfortunately I was never able to ride this attraction, not making it to Walt Disney World when it was open, the first trip it was undergoing rehab and the next trip it was gone.

Walt Disney World January 1974 Snapshots

A small grouping of photographs from Walt Disney World dated January 1974. It looks like it was a crowded day. First up is the Crystal Palace restaurant. The Magic Kingdom has always had nice landscaping.

Next up are the neat slit drum Tikis found in Adventureland. I wish Disneyland had these fun statures.

The Magic Kingdom also has a nice version of Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. I do miss the tree house at Disneyland.

In Florida, everything was made on a larger scale including the Flower Market.
