Lumberjack

I'm a Lumberjack and I'm Okay

I sleep all night and work all day

As part of the 1988 State Fair, Disneyland presented the Lumberjacks Timber Carnival on the Rivers of America. The show featured dancing lumber jacks as well as log rolling and tree climbing. The first four images for today show the dance off on the logs. The stage was set up in front of the Old Mill on Tom Sawyer's Island and the crowd watched from Frontierland.

Signs Of The Time 1969

The last three images from 1969. First up is a lovely shot at the Flower Market on Main Street. You can see Carnation on the right hand side and the entrance to the arcade of shops on the left hand side.

Next up a view of the exit to the Enchanted Tiki Room. Love the merchandise in the fore ground.

Next up is a shot of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship restaurant. I do miss this lovely site.

The last image is a composite of a close up of the various signs seen in the slides. Christopher D. Miller window is in honor of Walt's grandson.

A Visit to Disneyland 1969

What I am calling a set of shaky slides, although the first one is really the only shaky one in the group. The slide is the typical pose in the fore court of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The colorful banners on the moat bridge make for a nice colorful scene.

Next up is a nice shot of the lady being the last guest to debark the Mark Twain. Note the lovely trash can in the fore ground.

The last image is very mod with the it's a small world facade. I never realized how mod the design was until I saw this image with the older ladies in their great 1960s dresses.

Souvenir Friday- Heath Storybooks Advertising Brochure 1939

The next piece in the DC Heath Storybook advertising collection is this nice 4 page brochure. The brochure explains the benefits of the story books, the stories and the authors. The artwork is taken directly from the books and features the Fab Five. This brochure was probably given away at educator conventions and meetings.

Fantasyland From the Skyway Mid 1980s

A group of nice images taken from the Skyway showcasing Storybook Canal Boats. First shot shows Dumbo with Storybook and Casey Junior in the background.

Next up is a view of the mad Tea Cups with Storybook in the background.

A great view of the topiary letters spelling out the attraction.

A close view of the lovely buildings in Storbyook.

Knott's Berry Farm Engine 41

Three nice images of the steam engine number 41 Red Cliff at Knott's Berry Farm. First up is a shot of the engine at the station in front of the Haunted Shack.

Next up is a nice close up image of the engine. I dig the two cool dudes.

Last image is a head on shot of the engine with the nice builder plate.

Scenes Amongst the Berry Farm

Three slides from Knott's Berry Farm in the mid 1950s. First up is the loading area for the Stagecoach ride. Note the home spun look of the ride which definitely works for this attraction.

Next up is a view of some relic wagons in the overflow parking area at Knott's.

My favorite image is of Doctor Mal De Mar's Medicine Show. Some great tongue in cheek snake oil salesman signs. Quite a small stage to present this show.

Golden Horseshoe Jamboree Big Dance Routine

Replacing the Golden Horseshoe Review was this show featuring Sam the Bartender (Gil Christner) and Miss Lily (Judi Wallace.) The scene shown in the photographs was the showstopper Belly Up to the Bar. The storyline was Sam has a crush on Lily (who would not have a crush on her?) so he auditions to be in the show to be close to her.

My Friend Zulu at Disneyland

Some more images from Zulu. Here he poses with his sister over the years at various locations in Disneyland. First up is a pose in front of the entrance to 1967 Tomorrowland.

Next up is a nice shot of Zulu interacting with Eeyore on Main Street. My friend was very excited to meet and get his photo taken with Eeryore. Eeyore looks gloomy as usual.

A nice shot dated 1977 on the back from the Chicken of the Sea pirate ship. I remember posing the same way.

Photograph sitting on the rockwork in front of the Storybook Canal Boats and my favorite whale, Monstro. Everyone has a favorite whale, right?

Souvenir Friday- Dumbo Advertising Bookmark From DC Heath

As long time readers may know, I have many different collections. One of them is a collection of story books published in the 1940s by D.C. Heath featuring the Disney characters. I remember looking at and reading these books as a kid as my dad had a small collection. My favorite is Bambi. I recently purchased a nice collection of promotional material for these storybooks. For the first post of this collection, a nice promotional bookmark for the Dumbo storybook.

Some Views Of Disneyland Circa 1986

A group of four nice views of Disneyland scenes circa 1986. First up is a nice shot of the sailing ship Columbia as she sits in at the dock. Note how nice the figurehead looks.

Next up a view of the Horse Drawn Trolley being loaded. The tack for the horses is nice with the D on the harness.

A lovely Tomorrowland view from the Monorail with lots of activity that Tomorrowland was once known for. Judging by the crowd, it was a busy day.

Final image is of the old Flower Market area and the Carnation restaurant. The openness of the view is very nice.

Pacific Ocean Park Entrance Model

The last photograph from the collection of Pacific Ocean Park press photographs. The image is a nice shot of the model constructed to show the entrance. I love the detailing with all the glass bubbles.

Just a quick reminder that today would have been Walt's 111th birthday, so Happy Birthday Walt Disney.

Merry Go Round at Pacific Ocean Park

A nice image of the Loof carousel that had been on the pier since 1926 when the pier was known as Ocean Park amusement pier. The carousel was more of a merry go round with a menagerie of animals to ride, as seen by the elephant in the background. It is believed the carousel is now located at Seaport Village in San Diego.

Space Wheels

In 1960 Pacific Ocean Park added a double Ferris Wheel for an attraction called the Space Wheels. To add to the excitement, the ride was lit with lots of lights at night.

Loading the Ride

Pacific Ocean Park was a mix of themed attractions and the usual midway style of thrill rides. One of the rides was a zipper style of Ferris Wheel. Here we see two nice young guests loading into the ride. Note how dapper the two are dressed for their date nite.

Oktoberfest At Pacific Ocean Park

Cue the polka music because it is Oktoberfest at Pacific Ocean Park. A nice group of local Los Angeles German Club members pose near the Sea Serpent coaster. I love the fish graphic up on the wall.
