A Quick Trip To Cars Land

While on my way to San Diego, I stopped by Disneyland to visit Cars Land as well as eat at the Tangaroa Terrace and also visit Trader Sam's. Here are some quick snapshots of Cars Land. I love the in joke of Catmull oil and Butte gas.

My favorite new merchandise is this for the Red Trolley. The train conductor's hat would be awesome if they removed the ears.

Boot Hill Dodge City Kansas 1963

Many Western cities and towns have Boot Hill's. Dodge City in Kansas has a whole street and several museums in one area. This was a major tourist attraction at the time. First view is of Front street with a typical commercial block from the old west.

The next two images show close up photographs of the street and the commercial buildings.

Of course there is a cemetery at Boot Hill and a hanging tree. Too bad the tombstones are a little blurry.

Final image is a view of the museum and old Fort Dodge.

Just a note that like this ghost town, the blog may seem a bit empty. I am heading to California for a visit to the San Diego Comic Con and also Disneyland. If possible, I will post some trip reports.

Autopia and Flying Saucers

From the same family as yesterday are two photographs showing two exciting attractions in Tomorrowland. First up is a view of the Autopia with the granddaughter and grandmother riding a nice purple vehicle.

The next attraction is the granddaughter and grandmother riding the Flying Saucers. The granddaughter appears to be having a blast.

Various Views of the Monsanto House Of The Future

All from the same family, but all different years. First up is an establishing shot of the entrance to Tomorrowland. I wonder what is in the large bag? Also there must have not been package pickup at this time. Let's join them and enter Tomorrowland.

First up is a pose in front of the Monsanto House of the Future. The lines of the house are very nice and this view shows the house in it's best light.

Here we meet the two at the exit to the House of the Future. Notice the nun exiting the house, I wonder what she thought of the exhibits?

Souvenir Friday- Matterhorn Nose Cone

The closest I have to owning a Matterhorn Bobsled is this piece of the nose cone. The cone is made out of fiberglass and features the classic decal with the Matterhorn and sun. The story I was told when I purchased this was that this was given to a cast member to commemorate the addition of the Abominable Snowman in 1978. That is why the piece is jagged as Harold has torn apart the bobsled. Whether true or not, it is a piece I prize.

1960 Vacation Photographs Jungle Cruise Animals

More images from the nurses who took a long vacation in 1960. The photographer liked the animals on the Jungle River Cruise. However, when taking the photo's, the skipper hit the acceleration and the images turned a bit more abstract with a great sense of motion with the blurry backgrounds. I actually enjoy the look of these photographs as I can easily imagine myself on the boat. First up is old Smiley looking for a hand out.

This is a nice photo of a charging Hippo.

Final image is of the elephant in the brush.

Busy Day at Disneyland

Two slides from a group of slides of a vacation taken by two nurses after graduation. First up is a view of the Matterhorn from Matterhorn way.

Next up a crowded courtyard view in Fantasyland. Check out all the souvenirs being carried and worn by the crowd.

Frontierland, From a Distance

Three panoramic views of Frontierland showing the fun that could be found around the Rivers of America. First up is a view of the Tom Sawyer's Island with a raft arriving or departing the island.

Next up is a view of the Old Mill and the Mark Twain in dock with two (yes, count them two) rafts filled with guests.

Last view is an overview of Fantasyland with the Columbia dominating the scene.

Souvenir Friday- Bill Justice Going Away Card

A fun little card given to a Norma who was most likely in the ink and paint department and evidently loved to bowl. The little box in the lower right hand corner reads Just'a greeting card by Bill Justice. The back duck is a cute touch.

Some More Coney Island Ohio Images

These images are not as interesting, but still show the park in the 1930s. First up are two snapshots (four images on these double photographs) of the pony ride. You can see a playground in the background. As most of these parks had large picnic areas, there were also playgrounds for the kids.

The last image shows the parking sign and another sign for parking featuring a car in the background on one image and what appears to be an amphitheater in the background on the other image.

Double the Fun Amusement Park Photographs

An interesting set of photographs that are double images. The amusement park appears to be Coney Island in Ohio which closed in 1971 due to flooding issues. The first two images show the large wooden coaster named the Wild Cat and also a water plunge ride.

Next up is a closer view of the water plunge ride with nice Art Deco style architecture and what appears to be a picnic area.

Another image of the picnic area and a fun sign for an attraction Land Of Oz. I wish the photographer had taken some images of the Land of Oz.

Final image for today is the signage for the Shooting Star roller coaster. Too bad there is not more of the roller coaster seen in the two images.
