Two Views of Frontierland 1956

Two interesting views of Frontierland. First up is a snapshot of the Pony Stockade that used to sit behind the stockade entrance to Frontierland. This is where Marshall Willard P. Bounds had his spot and is basically the location of the Frontierland Shooting Gallery.

Next up is a nice photo spot in Indian Village. I know everyone has seen the dancers, but there was a spot in front of the teepees where guests could snap a photo and pose on various stumps. I love the kid in the right sticking his tongue out.

Gepetto's Village Storybook Land 1956

More views of Storybook Land Canal Boats first up is two pictures of Gepetto's Village.

Next up is Alice's church.

Final image is of the Old Mill where the animals took refuge in the storm.

Storybook Land Canal Boats July 1956

The newly opened Storybook Land Canal Boats (a month old when these photographs were taken) sparkles in these black and white snapshots. First up is a nice view of Toad Hall with Cinderella's Dream Castle in the background.

Next up is a view of the Dream Castle on the hill.

The last image is of the Dwarves Cottage in the forest.

Souvenir Friday- Cafe Orleans From Sara Lee

A nice souvenir size menu from Cafe Orleans located in New Orleans Square. A very cool menu with a nice little pictogram story on the back regarding the history of Sara Lee. I have not seen a Cafe Orleans menu in that size.

So a Band Walks Into a Bar....

The follow up to yesterday's post...here is the band that supported Dick Harwood in his role as the traveling salesman. Even though dressed in period costumes, the look is definitely 1980s.

So a Traveling Salesman Enters a Bar.....

A nice publicity image of Dick Hardwick as the Traveling Salesman from The Golden Horseshoe Review. The role was originated by Wally Boag. When Wally retired in the early 1980s, Dick Hardwick stepped into the role and history. The chosen background for this publicity shot is Big Thunder Mountain.

Grad Nite 1966

Two souvenir photographs of Jack and his date for Grad Nite 1966. It was quite an era with skinny ties, sweaters and Jackie-O style dresses. And the dreamy look of lovers was quite the rage. Both of them do look happy, I wonder if they stayed together, got married and had their requisite 2 kids, dog and house with white picket fence? Or did she join a commune and is now a Women's Studies instructor and he is a Vietnam Veteran and a retired Police Officer?

Two Views of Disneyland in 1958

These two slides were also in the same batch of the slides I posted yesterday showing the Rivers of America. The first is a nice view of Town Square with the banner advertising the opening of the Grand Canyon Diorama.

Next up is a shot of the Chicken of the Sea ship from the Skyway. I wonder if the long streamers seen on the right hand side of the image have advertising for Chicken of the Sea?

Rivers of America Scenes

Three slides featuring the Rivers of America and the ships that ply the dangerous and wild river. First up is a nicely framed image of the Columbia in dock with the Keel Boat getting ready to launch. The framing is from the bandstand which once was the place to hear Dixieland on the river.

A rather long distance view of the Mark Twain as she approaches the dock. Even from a distance, the ship has a nice look.

Final image is the way Dapper Day attendees should dress, especially nice white gloves and a strand of pearls and sunglasses.

Lane's General Store Calico Ghost Town

Calico Ghost Town has an interesting history. Originally a booming silver mining town in the Mojave desert of California, then an abandoned town, then purchased by Walter Knott to complete his vision of a real ghost town (and to preserve the history) and eventually donated to San Bernadino to be run as a park. The connection to theme parks is that Walter Knott ran the town as an amusement park with a mine train ride and costumed characters during the day. It is now still run like an amusement park with gun fights, gold panning and a train ride. This postcard is of the general store with all the advertising out front. The postcard is postmarked 1958, during the prime time of the Knott's ownership.

Lake Placid Bobsleds at Palisades Amusement Park

A cool postcard from 1939 with a view of a fun ride at the Palisades Amusement Park. This must have been lots of fun to ride. The ride was at the park from 1937 until 1946.

Traveling Carnival Carousel

A cute young girl takes a thrilling ride on a traveling carousel. The slides appear to be mid 1950s and based upon the background, the carousel is in a parking lot near the ocean. I enjoy the range of emotions seen by this young rider.

Pictures of the Sea Circus at Pacific Ocean Park

The slides are dated October 1963 and feature the dolphins performing tricks at the Sea Circus at Pacific Ocean Park. Some nice background elements for the Forest of Fun.

Walt Disney World War 2 Food Saving Poster

A nice image of Walt Disney and a Colonel in the US Army Air Corps in World War 2. Walt is showing off a Pinocchio maquette and also a food saving poster created for the Army Air Corps Technical Training Command. The poster exhorts recruits to take only the amount of food they will eat and not to waste food using Jiminy Cricket as a spokescricket. Jiminy is holding the DI for the Technical Training Command.

Art Show At Walt Disney Studios

Many of the animators also created fine art outside of their work at the Walt Disney Studios. Walt Disney noticed this and created an art fair where the employees could show their art. This fair appears to be early 1960s. First up is Walt speaking to two employees. The gentleman in the striped shirt looks like John Hench.

I do not recognize this employee speaking with Walt and looking at art. I like the clown painting.
