World's Fair Wednesday- 1933 Chicago Views as Seen by an Artist

The three final images from the postcard folder featuring artistic renderings of the attractions at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933. First up is a view of the Hollywood area with a film in progress.

Another view shows the Old Heidelberg Inn, a European restaurant and rathskeller.

Final view is of the Chrysler building with the test track out front.

Disneyland 1960- Photo Album Part 5

More images from a photo album documenting a trip in 1960. First up a nice view of the barely year old Matterhorn.

Next up a view of the Indian Chief greeting the Mark Twain. I like the caption on the photograph.

Last image is of Sleeping Beauty's Castle marked as Prince's Castle. For all of those Dapper Days at Disneyland fans, check out the fancy clothes worn by all of the visitors in the photograph.

Things from the Gate is going on hiatus for a while. Today I show two more images from the photo album. This page had 5 photographs on it, the three from yesterday and the two today. First up are the cannibals from the Jungle River Cruise.

Next up is the Flower Market. Although it is captioned as end of the day, there are a lot more photographs in the album.

Three more images from the photo album. First up is the subs (as captioned) in the Submarine Lagoon. I like the Monorail beam above the lagoon.

A fun view of the Golden Horseshoe Review from the Mark Twain. I like the advertising on the banners posted on the theater.

A great view of the Mark Twain and Columbia on the Rivers of America. I like the landscaping in the foreground.

More images from 1960 found in a photo album. The first image is a nice shot of Casey Junior in Story Book land.

A great shot of the red 3 car Monorail over the Submarine Voyage.

Final image features the Matterhorn, Skyway, Monorail and even part of the Yacht Bar.

Souvenir Friday- A Trio of Postcards

Some recent finds from the postcard world. First up is a nice copy of one of the unusual Disneyland postcards- Professor George J. Keller and his Felines. In 1956 Keller held center stage in the old Mickey Mouse Club Circus tent, thrilling park visitors with his lion and other big cats show.

Next up is one of the scarce Art Corner cards. I love the graphic of Donald and the nephews on a Jungle River Cruise launch.

Final postcard is of the Disneyland Hotel showing the Coffee Shop and iconic exposed steel girders.

Disneyland 1960- Photo Album

These images and the coming images over the next several days are from a photo album. The pages are marked Disneyland 1960. First up is a view of Town Square from the Disneyland Railroad Station. The caption is a little random.

Next up is an image taken from the Skyway of the lovely red Monorail approaching the Matterhorn.

Final image for today is a shot of the Mark Twain and the Columbia in dry dock.

World's Fair Wednesday- 1939 New York Poster

One of the best posters from the 1939 New York World's Fair is this design by Joseph Binder. Featuring the Trylon and Perisphere along with the various methods of transportation (airplane, ship and railroad)as well as the city skyline of New York. This poster was made in many different sizes from poster stamp to full size movie poster size. This example is a nice 8.5 by 11 inches. Marked in the lower bottom is Grinnel Litho Co. New York. Joseph Binder was an Austrian graphic artist who created many posters. Joseph was born in 1898 and trained at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. He won many awards as a student and was commissioned to create many posters and then emigrated to New York in 1936. He continued in the graphic arts until his death in 1972.

Traveling Fair

A shot of the self propelled railroad set up in a parking lot with a Scrambler in the background. It appears the kid is just starting the ride.

Roy E. Disney and Others at the Disney Studio

Taking a little break from the usual Things From the Gate paper collectibles for today to showcase these three interesting images. Roy appears to be showing some investors around the large sound stage where the Horse Drawn Trolley and other Main Street Vehicles were being constructed. First up is Roy and an unknown person in front of a Horse Drawn Trolley.

Final image is of the large music box that was being restored for use on Main Street at the Penny Arcade.

All three images are from a set of negatives with no other information.

Antares and Carnation Plaza

Astro Jets with the rocket ship Antares dated 1958.

Next up is a nice view of the soon to be extinct Carnation Plaza also 1958. I love the full Disneyland Band playing on the stage.

A close up of the ketchup and mustard bottle on the table. Now I am on the look out for these plastic containers.

Bump Em Cars

I believe this may have been Miracle Strip in Panama Beach, Florida but I am not sure. I like the great sign painted on the side of the large building reading Bump Em Cars. It also looks like some off the shelf carnival style rides including a Tilt-A-Whirl. Unfortunately the photographs have no markings.

This shot is very intriguing showing a great water effect and feature. Just outside of the picture appears to be a large alligator.

Souvenir Friday- 1970 Summer Wallet Fact Card and 1970-71 Calendar

Two items handed out to Cast Members in 1970. First up is a wallet fact card that a Cast Member could carry and answer questions guests may have had. Some interesting information about the restaurants, attractions and ticket prices. Published by the University of Disneyland.

Next up is a wallet calendar for December 1970 to April 1971. More interesting information on parades and private parties. Unfortunately the private parties are not identified as the company or association.

World's Fair Wednesday- More Artist Views

Two more artist renderings of the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. First up is a view of the Sears, Roebuck Building. At this time, Sears was still the largest retail store in the United States and the World.

Next up is a night view of another large industrial company and their building. the General Motors building. This time it is night with the nice Aurora Borealis effect in the sky.

Jungle River Cruise- August 4, 1956

Final two pictures from this trip are kind of ho-hum, but I will present them anyway to complete the series. First up is a blurry image of the alligator seen during the Jungle River Cruise.

Next up is a photograph of the Hippo's conspiring to charge the Jungle Launches.

Things From the Gate- Second 1976 Advertising Brochure

From late in 1976, the second Disneyland advertising brochure of the year. This brochure removes the America On Parade references. Of course, the ticket prices also changed. This brochures is date coded 8/76.

Fantasyland August 4, 1956

Two nice views of Fantasyland. First up is a somewhat long view of Casey Junior. I am wondering what is in the foreground...the fences are nice though.

Next up is a great close view of Dumbo. I like the cast member standing and taking the tickets.

Train and Train Station August 4, 1956

Two views from the family who visited the park in August 4, 1956. First up is a view of the EP Ripley and train combine at the Main Street station. Quite a nice angle to see of the train and cars.

Next up is the obligatory image in front of the Main Street Station. For the poster fanatics, check out the rare three panel Frontierland poster.
