One of my favorite Monsanto Home of the Future brochure is this full color one done in the early 1960s. The interior shots are nice and rare....as is the brochure itself. I hope you all enjoy it as well.

1966 Views Along the River

Some nice views taken from the Mark Twain of scenes along the Rivers of America. A couple of the views are no longer in existence. First up is a quick shot of two deer coming down to the river to drink the water.

Next up are three views that no longer exist. First up is a view of the burning settler's cabin along with the dead settler in the foreground.

Next up is a continuation of the dead theme once seen on the river, an Indian burial pyre.

Final view is of the the Three Sisters falls.

World's Fair Wednesday- Tower of the 4 Winds

A nice view of the Rolly Crump designed icon the Tower of Four Winds being dedicated by the President of Pepsi Cola, Donald M. Kendall. Notice all the characters in the background. Unfortunately when it's a small world moved to Disneyland, the tower was not replicated.

The refreshment stand that stood outside of the attraction also echoed the Tower of Four Winds. Check out the guy drinking his Pepsi and talking on the phone in the lower right hand side.

All I have to say is that she is cute so he should not look so sour!

Things From the Gate- 1962 Advdertising Brochure

Continuing with the advertising brochures, the cover has now changed to 1960s illustrative style similar to the gate brochures and the interior images have been updated. The back panel has a 1962 date code.

Nell and Belle- Calico Saloon, Ghost Town Calif

I love it when older folks pose with the figures at Knott's Berry Farm. I do not remember seeing the suitcase in other photographs of the same spot.

Random Saturday

Just a quick grab of three images that have been recently been purchased. First up is the Antique Auto Ride located within Knott's Berry Farm in 1968, not to be confused with Henry's Livery which was gasoline powered and located on Grand Avenue. This was another of Bud Hurlbut's attractions.

This image is different. I know it is on Main Street, but the way the group is standing and the random nature of the shot is just odd....

Last randomness for today is this shot on Fort Wilderness. Notice two cups of coffee to get the day going.

Souvenir Friday- Map of Never Never Land

There are items I have that I have owned for a very long time that I have not been able to figure out the original use. An example is this nice print of Never Never Land from Peter Pan. The print is copyright 1956, a couple years after the original release or the film. The print is on a nice heavy weight paper. It appears to be miscut with something printed on the right hand side. The one thing I do know is that it is a fantastic art piece. I believe this was done by Mary Blair, or if not by her, by one of her compatriots in her style.

My Ride Operator is Snow White

The end of the slides from the 1962 trip feature a rare event. First up are two nice group photographs in front of the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Quite a nice looking family.

The best images are of the Snow White Adventure load area. I do not think that this would be allowed today. I can only think of how much fun and happiness the little girl must be seeing Snow White personally running the ride.

This one is a little blurry, but still you can see some of the details of the load mural.

World's Fair Wednesday- Walt Disney at the 1964 NY Fair

These images were originally published in the company house magazine Pepsi Cola World in June 1964 to celebrate the opening and their sponsorship of it's a small world at the New York Fair. During this promotion, Walt was accompanied by Miss Pepsi, as can be seen on the first image with Walt talking to the cute kid.

Next up is an image of the lounge area with all the Hostesses trying to serve Walt and Pepsi Cola executives. Check out the hats that read Pepsi on the Hostesses.

Matterhorn 1962- Load and Unload

Three fantastic views of my favorite attraction. I know the photographer was just taking pictures of the family on the single bobsled,, but what he or she captured is just amazing. I love the details you can see including cast member costumes, the interior of the bobsleds, and the mechanical track mechanism. In the first one the maintenance cast member is working on the track switching mechanism.

Making the final turn into unload/load area. The background is mesmerizing. My favorite picture sign is featured prominently.

Parting image is the load area with happy guests awaiting the bobsled.

Things From The Gate- Another Blue Brochure for Major Pepperidge

We are taking a step back to 1960 with this version. The brochure mentions the new Nature's Wonderland and features some great images of the time period attractions. This brochure is easiest to check as the statement on ticket prices is XXXXXed out.

The Family at Disneyland in 1962

A cute group photograph of the family in 1962. I like these type of family group images as they show the joy of being at Disneyland and the family experience.

Next up is a great image of Monorail Yellow speeding over the parking lot pylons. Check out the attraction posters, ticket booth, signs and of course the fantastic cars in the background.

Souvenir Friday- Lake George Storytown and Ghost Town

Covering two roadside tourist attractions in one fell swoop, this park in Lake George New York features a nice Storytown fairy talek park alongside a Ghost Town. The Ghost Town was marketed to the older crowd (teens and above) while their children and younger siblings could enjoy the fairy tale park. The brochure is circa 1958 and is a classic baby boomer park. The park is no longer open, closing in 2004.

A couple of views of the gardens from the Italian Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair.

Jungle Cruise Denizens 1962

Two quick images of the Jungle Cruise Denizens taken in 1962. First one is a little blurry, the skipper must have gunned the boat right as the photographer snapped the photo.

Everyone's favorite animal, the Hippos.

Printed in June of 1961 (according to the date code on the back), this blue brochure features a different set of interior photographs.

Autopia and Tea Cups 1962

Two rides spotlighted today. First up the great looking 1950's style Autopia cars. Mr. Gurr really had a nice touch when he designed the various Autopia cars.
