Chicken of the Sea Bonanza

Images from the contact print featuring the Chicken of the Sea restaurant. First up strike a pose on the stairs to the boat. The pose is very "modelesque."

A shot of the rigging and sails. I like the composition of this photo.

Going inside the ship, we see these two shots of the girls enjoying their meal.

Taking a closer look, it appears the Chicken of the Sea had it's own water cups. A new thing to put on my want (and maybe even need) list!

Things From the Gate- 1964 Gate Map

Continuing the posts featuring the gate maps for Disneyland. This one is from 1964 with a new and less detailed map for the interior.

Mermaids and More

Images of the Submarine Voyage are always fun to view, but are even better when they include in underwater images and more...First up is the Triton submarine.

A nice underwater shot of some of the scenic elements in the lagoon.

Of course the picture of everyone's favorite cast members....a Mermaid!

The Skyway

Another set of contact prints from the same photographer. A couple of nice views of Tomorrowland part of the Skyway. Make sure you look at all the details in the background.

To finish this off, a you are there shot of the old parking lot trams. This family really liked to take portrait type images in Disneyland.

Souvenir Friday- Disneyland Movies and Slide Catalog from Camera Shop

One of my latest purchases, a catalog of Disneyland movies (both 8mm and 16mm) as well as slides and Viewmaster sets. Catalog dates to 1957 to 1958 as slides from Rose Bowl Parade are dated 1957 (and the catalog came with 1958 gate map.) Now I have a checklist for at least one set of souvenir slides as well as movies.

A Little Wrap Up

Today's images are the remaining four images from the contact print of a trip to Disneyland. Not the most fantastic images, but still nice in their own way. First up is two shots of the Columbia. The unfortunate thing is the exposure on each of them was very light and I had to darken them considerably.

World's Fair Wednesday- To the Moon

Images from the Space Park are always fun to see. First up is part of the wall with a satellite.

A view of one of the first supersonic jets that propelled a pilot faster than the speed of sound. The planes were used to train Astronauts on flying fast and high, many earning astronaut wings this way.

A view of the Space Park with one of the satellites that visited the moon. Check out the kid in his bright red pedal car in the middle of the image.

This image shows off the nice landscaping around the Unisphere, the symbol of the fair.

Strike a Pose at Disneyland

A group of photographs with everyone posing. First up a pose on the Mark Twain.

Things From the Gate- 1962 Gate Map

Going backwards to catch up on the gate map I missed, this is the 1962 gate map. The orange color is great although not much change between 1960 to 1962 in the graphics, as well as the 1963 I posted last week.

On the Trail of Nature's Wonderland

From a sheet of contact prints (the negatives are printed directly on to photographic paper without any enlargement) come this set featuring a ride on the Burros across Nature's Wonderland. The first three images show people being Dapper at Disneyland while riding animals.

The cast of the Golden Horseshoe Review in a nice pose on the Police Gazette set. The Four Lovelies definitely look lovely in this image.

Souvenir Friday- Frontier Village Opening Brochure

Heading North to a competitor to Disneyland, we visit Frontier Village that was once located in San Jose, California. The park was a great western themed that was opened in 1961 after the owner went to Disneyland in 1959. The park had a nice relaxed feel and some interesting rides. Several of the designers who worked on the park had experience from Disney. First up is the cover of the brochure with some great flat style graphics.

The brochure opens up to present information on the park and more great graphics. The brochure has artwork and is designed by Paul B. Murphy.

Once again, the folder opens up to a map of the park along with some ride artwork.

The last page is for mailing the brochure.

Grab Bag of Random Pictures

A sampling of some random images. First up is the rocket ship Antares from the Astro Jets.

A shot of Frontierland from the Omnibus. The interesting bit of the image is the sign for the Omnibus and the peak view of the Davey Crockett Arcade.

A glorious color image of the Skyway from Story Book Land. The skill of the miniaturist is evident in this shot.

1965 New York World's Fair Walkways

A selection of walkways from the 1965 New York World's Fair. First up is a view showing the crowd and in the background is the Mormon Pavilion. Be sure to look at the clock in the foreground.

Views Around the Park 1960

A neat little set of views throughout Disneyland in December 1960. First up is an image from Skyway showing the sleek and only a year old Monorail in station. The Monorail still looks modern, it must have been mind blowing to see it in 1960.
