Gun Fight at Corriganville Part 1

One of the main attractions at Corriganville was a gunfight. Based upon the number of actors and the crowd, this was quite a fight. As you shall see over the next couple of days, the gunfight was quite complex.

Pat Visits Disneyland 1955 and 1959

You may recognize Pat from the Knott's Berry Farm photographs posted on Friday. Here she poses in front of the old Indian Village located close to the Blacksmith shop. Written on the back of the photograph is Pat in front of Indian tent at Disneyland 8-55.

It appears the family made the trip next in 1959, before the opening of the Matterhorn. First up is an image of the parking lot with the Matterhorn under construction on the right hand side.

Here is a nice view of the Old Mill on Tom Sawyer Island. Notice the Matterhorn construction on the right hand side.

And a final image of the Indian Chief on the Rainbow Caverns trails.

Things From the Gate-More 1956 Ticket Fliers

Today's ticket brochure show my obsessive side, three ticket brochures from summer 1956. Notice that there are three different colors, one in blue on yellow, one black on yellow and one black on blue. I have no idea if the blue is older or newer than the other ones. I do know that all tickets purchased were good through 1956. It says so right there on the bottom of each of the fliers.

Knott's Berry Farm People

Today I swing over the Knott's Berry Farm to show some of the various people as seen from the Train ride...and of course add a little extra. First up is the Indian Chief who has won the top of the hill game.

Next up is a lonely miner panning for gold. I like the tracks in the background.

Another Indian Chief, this time out for an excursion in his canoe. I think he needs his alone time.

The ever popular volcano outside of the Steak House.

Of course everyone love's a cute monkey. All of the kids are really paying attention.

Final image for today shows the obligatory pose by the rusted old railroad engine in Ghost Town.

Souvenir Friday- Cartoon Map Ashtray

I will admit I am a sucker for cartoon maps, especially of Disneyland. This is an unusual version being a large ashtray measuring approximately 8 inches in diameter. The art would now be classified as retro, although I classify it as cool, fun and whimsical. For those wondering, I would date this piece as 1959 to 1961.

Hanging 5 in It's A Small World

Fantastic and clear shot of the Surfer Boy from Hawaii in It's A Small World. I have always enjoyed seeing him shooting the curl. Of course the fact that this room features all the tikis is nice as well.

The Odd Couple Visit Disneyland

This grouping of photographs were purchased a while ago so I do not remember if they were purchased loose or in a photo album. The photographs do appear to be from the late 1970's, probably in August with wildfire smoke in the sky. First up is an image of the Columbia.

Next up is an image of Ernest S. Marsh pulling into the Main Street Station.

A couple of shots of my favorite mountain. Check out the lighting and the sky.

Next image is of the odd couple with a Betty White look a like posing in front of the Monsanto Adventure Through Inner Space attraction.

Final image is of the odd couple leaving the park via the Monorail. I enjoy the arms folded pose.

New York Worlds Fair- Part 8

The last set of images is from the all dancing, all singing, all swimming and all diving show put on by Broadway producer Billy Rose. With the title of Aquacade, the show entertained millions of visitors. The ampitheater seated 10,000 at a showing. Unfortunately, our photographer was stuck behind a rather large audience member. First up is the back of the head of one of the audience member and some of the ampitheater.

Things From the Gate- 1956 Ticket Fliers

From early July of 1956 comes the next gate flier. The flier promotes the new attractions of the Tom Sawyer Island (opened June 16, 1956), Storybook Land (June 16, 1956), Rainbow Caverns Mine Ride (July 2, 1956), and the Skyway (June 23, 1956.) Disneyland kept these graphics for a while as you shall soon see with the other fliers from 1956.

New York Worlds Fair- Part 7

Just two more installments from this collection of photographs from the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. The collection was purchased as a vintage photo album. First up is a nice abstract photograph taken from the second floor of an exhibit hall. If anyone knows where this was taken, let me know.

Next up is one of the many fountains scattered throughout the fairgrounds.

Final image is of the photographers sister standing in front of the statue Europa sculpted by Gleb W. Derujinsky.

New York Worlds Fair- Part 6

Well getting back on track with the New York World's Fair of 1939. Several images of the Trylon and Perisphere this time.

Two more international buildings- another view of the Russia pavilion with the large Victory statue on the top of the building.

A view of the Poland main hall with an intriguing texture to the tower part of the building.

Souvenir Friday- I Scream Sundae Haunted Mansion Spoon

First off sorry for the delay as I had some technical difficulties. This souvenir is really cool, a souvenir spoon from 1969 for the unique I Scream Sundae to celebrate the opening of the Haunted Mansion. The graphics of the heads of the hitch hiking ghosts is very fun!

Stuff From the Park Flashback #2- Tomorrowland

An early post was this great image of a couple in Tomorrowland. I still love the color in this slide and also the great image of the building in the background and the light fixture. I would definitely purchase one of those light fixtures if someone made a new one!

Stuff From the Park Flashback- Mine Train

Quick post before I head off on a work trip....these are two images I posted way back in 2005 at the start of the blog. Both are nice views of the Mine Train attraction. First up is the load area from 1959 featuring the Rainbow Caverns trains and the Pack Mules. In the background is the newly opened Matterhorn.

Next image is from one of the train cars, showing the full train set as well as Rainbow Ridge. Note that each car is named for a different scenic section of the attraction.

New York Worlds Fair- Part 5

Heading back to the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. First up is the Dupont World of Chemistry. I love the Dr. Frankenstein lab apparatus as the main sculpture for the building.

Final image is another unknown. It appears to be some sort of painted horse the two sisters are standing in front. I like the design as the horse appears to be folk art.
