Fantasy on Parade and Santa's Village

A little two-fer action today. The first photograph is a publicity still from 1968. The information on the back reads: Touring California- Disneyland's pretty 1968 Ambassador Sally Sherbin and her friends King Louie the Ape and Baloo the boisterous Bear, are off on a swinging tour of California in connection with Disneyland's annual "Fantasy on Parade" They will appear at ______________________ on December ______ at __________________________.

The other two black and white pictures are from Santa's Village. The first one shoes a shoeless street urchin breaking into a store to obtain some candy.

The second image features a bemused kid and a reinderless sleigh.

Christmas at Disneyland

A nice quick set of three images of Christmas at Disneyland. The first slide shows the entrance devoid of any ornamentation. The skies do look like December skies of California.

The second image is of Sleeping Beauty Castle with the ribbons and decorations of yore. Today the castle gets "blinged" out so much that it is almost unrecognizable.

The final image shows what I want to find wrapped up in a vacant lot with running water, electricity and a small pond!

Looking Like Christmas

Sorry for the several days without a post. I took a quick trip to California to visit my family, friends, the Rose Bowl Swap Meet and of course Disneyland. I was at the park on Sunday and it was wall to wall people. I rode only three rides, the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk through which is amazing, Small World Holiday on the new Rubbermaid or Little Tykes Boats and the Haunted Mansion Holiday. A quick Dole Whip and I was out of there.

Today's images are two that my brother found for me. The first is a girl proudly showing off her Birthday presents, but they could also be Christmas presents if we pretend. Of course, one of the presents is a nice piece of Disneyland merchandise.

The second image is the same little girl and her brother posing at Santa's Village.

Chris- fantastic job on the Sleeping Beauty walk through!

Waiting for the Submarines

Just a quick post showing the ladies of the family waiting for the Submarines on the dock. These are at the edge of the contact print and are quite rough. However, I feel the roughness helps make the image appear more nostalgic.

Watching the Indian Dances

An unusual view of the crowd for the Indian Dancers. Most of the images showcase the dancers and you can see the crowd in the background. In these two images, the crowd is the focus. I like how you can see some of the displays in the background as well as the nice Kodak Picture Spot sign.

As a bonus, a nice image of one of the Three Little Pigs standing and waving by the Carousel. In today's world, all the kids would be surrounding the pig and the gentleman walking by would be wanting an autograph. I do like the design of this costume as the head and face is very cute.

In the Bushes- Jungle Cruise

Many of the early animal figures and other scenic elements were placed in the bushes to camouflage the mechanics. However by placing them in bushes, the figures stayed in the shade and were quite difficult to photograph. The first image is of the dancing natives.

The next photo is of the towering giraffes.

The third shot is of the rhino who would charge as the boat approached. It is really hard to see, but he is in there.

Finally the large elephant who this day is still sitting in bushes.

Jungle River Cruise Animals

Today we follow the family aboard one of the Jungle Cruise launches. The first photograph shows one of the launches heading into the deep jungle.

The second image is of the snake wrapped around the tree. The snake has moved to several different locations throughout the years.

A couple of images of the crocodiles who are always looking for a hand out.

The last image for today is of the water horse the hippopotamus.

Aboard the Raft to Tom Sawyer's Island

Three views of the family aboard one of the Tom Sawyer's Island rafts. In a couple of the images, you can see the rare bridge from Adventureland to Frontierland allowing water to flow from the Jungle Cruise to the Rivers of America.

Souvenir Friday on a Saturday-Sansei Amusents Catalog Plus Let's Go Fishing

Sorry for the no post yesterday as I had to be at work very early in the morning. To make up for it is this mid-1960s Amusement Ride catalog from the Japanese manufacturer Sansei. From the pictures, the company made many of the rides seen at Nara Dreamland. There are some fantastic ride ideas especially the snack tower which is my wife's favorite.

For a bonus, here are the striped shorts boys fishing on Tom Sawyer's Island. I wonder if they caught anything and if they did, they carried the fish around all day?
