SOP Saturday- Orientation Packet 1969

Years ago at a San Diego Swap Meet I found a white folder with the University of Disneyland logo on the front cover. Inside was the orientation paperwork for a Disneyland employee who was hired for the foods and restaurant department. Some wonderful information. Part of my job is to perform safety training during new employee orientation and reading this material was very interesting. The training has not changed much since 1969. My favorite piece is the listing of the various restaurants and type of food they served. My favorite is Club 33 specializing in Epicurian Delights.

Souvenir Friday- Executive Coffee Cup Supersized

The coffee cup was made as a sample piece for sale at Disneyland. I do not think it ever went into production. I love the outside wording and then at the bottom of the cup is Stolen From Disneyland. The cup itself is huge, approximately double or maybe even triple the normal coffee cup size. Disneyland did sell a large coffee cup that has great graphics around the side. I can see the executives passing on this one as being not appropriate.

Final Signs and the Trashcan of Tomorrow

Here are the final two signs from the Home of the Future. The first explains how the "wings" of the structure worked and was placed under one of the wings. The showcase is made out of the wing with pictures inside showing the structural details. The second is of the exit sign with people leaving the building. In the right hand side you can see an electrician working on the plants of tomorrow. You can also see how much glass was in the home.

The final photo is the Trashcan of Tomorrow with the playground style furniture in the yard. I believe Dan Goodsell on his blog A Sampler of Things posted a photo of a group sitting on the yard furniture.

Yes, Even More Home of the Future Signs

Here are two more images of the Monsanto Home of the Future (or as it is sometimes called House of the Future.) Both of these were in the garden area seen while you were waiting to enter the home. The first is a little tough to read but it does state See the Home That Chemistry Built. The displays under neath the sign in the glass showcases appear to show some of the features and advertise the individual companies that manufactured some of the fixtures. The second also touts the home with See the Molded Walls and Ceilings. I can just picture a theater or circus barker for a side show selling the show to a crowd....

If you look closely in the reflection of the last picture, down at the lower right hand side, you can see a reflection of the photographer.

More Home of The Future Signs

Here are two more signs, the first being the large entrance sign. The typography and sign shape evoke the future, especially the future envisioned in the 1950s by designers and forward thinkers. The giant red M against the cool dark blue is very nice. The second sign is out in the garden before entering the home and is marked Lustraspan. I wish I could tell you about Lustraspan, but I can find no internet references to this material so it must not have been much of a success. Stick around as I will have some more signs tomorrow.

Direction Signs for Monsanto Home of the Future

Since Daveland has shown a couple posts of the Monsanto Home of the Future, I thought it was appropriate it to start showing the sign images taken in 1966 of the Home of the Future garden and outdoor display. The first two are directional signs with the red Monsanto logo on the bottom. The colors and use of plexiglass for the signs is amazing and works to create that future feel.

Mad Hatter Hat Shop Sign 1966

Staying on the theme of Hat Shops, here is a nice image of the Mad Hatter who was placed over the Mad Hatter hat shop located in Fantasyland. The design of the character is very nice and in model to the Mad Hatter in Alice In Wonderland. And of course I keep thinking of all the fantastic hats being sold in the shop.

SOP Saturday- Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln

This is the first SOP for Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln. What is interesting to me is the history stated about the Mr. Lincoln figure and the detail about the Lincoln theater. I believe the front cover is a drawing by Sam McKim.
