Souvenir Friday- Train Conductor Hat

In the mid to late 1980s Disneyland stopped running the railroad for a couple of years while Splash Mountain was being constructed. During this time, the conductors and train engineers were all transferred to other jobs. During construction, most of them were given their hats and badges. Of course, some of the cast members sold them, which is how I obtained this set up. When the trains started running again, the hat badges were recast and are made of shinier metal.

Is the woven part made of some sort of plastic? It looks just like the woven seat of a chair at my mom's house (only that is some kind of natural material).

Those hats are made by the Midway Cap Company of Chicago. They refer to them as the Disney Double Decker, having both the cloth and faux wicker (yes, it is plastic). Also of note is the bill of the cap. Squared, not rounded as a usual railroad conductors cap. Sometime referred to as a duck bill. Not sure if they still sell them to the public, but we bought a bunch a few years back.
