Next up is a nice postcard featuring a theme park and tiki. Floridaland was a theme park in need of a theme. Not only was there a porpoise show, but a full Western town with Can-Can dancers and shoot outs, deer park, Indian village, and a themed tram ride. The front entrance had the requisite parrots and other tropical birds found in other Florida tourist attractions. The park closed in 1971 and became a housing development.
A cool advertising postcard from the Tilt A Whirl manufactured by the Sellner Manufacturing Company of Minnesota. Looks like the rides were built on a farm.
Great postcards Matterhorn. The Tilt-A-Whirl is awesome. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAll fun, but yeah, that Tilt A Whirl one is out of this world! Great stuff, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to go to a postcard show!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very thoughtful arrangement of tables and chairs at the exit of the Story Book Land attraction so that guests who were sitting the ride out, actually had an attractive place to sit and wait for the rest of their party to return.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for Minnesota, but here in the South, it's pretty common to see light manufacturing take place in a rural area.
Actually, as any janitorial busboy (food stand equivalent of the common DL sweeper) from the pre-1983 Fantasyland era could attest, those tables by the Canal Boats were overflow for Fan 2. When Fan 2 got busy there weren't enough tables near Alice for people to sit and eat their burgers and fries! Speaking of sweepers, there's one on trash duty smack dab in the middle of the picture. Ah, the joys of working a north Fantasyland trash detail...
ReplyDeleteI remember sitting at those tables and eating while watching the Electrical Parade go by!
