Next is the menu fully folded out, the design is repeated as a mirror image.
Anyone want to order some coffee?
The next menu is from the Plaza Terrace. Based upon the graphics and the prices, I would date this to the late 1960's. This is the restaurant that shared the kitchen with the Tahitian Terrace. The restaurant did not last long under this name and with table service. Rather it changed quickly to Plaza Inn and to Buffet service.
Here is what was served, definitely a high end restaurant.
I'll check the thesaurus later to see when I have citations for "Plaza Terrace."
ReplyDelete"Plaza Terrace" menu - WOW ultra rare.... The Hills Bros. menu is really fun and what a great selection, I wish they had something like this today (with those prices too!) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'll have the Chopped bacon and Egg sandwich, with Pickle and Olives - 80¢ - Thanks
I didn't know about that Hills Bros. menu, zowie! I'd love to get one of those. It makes me want to decorate my own place in shades of bright purple, yellow ochre, and pinky-red!
ReplyDeleteMatterhorn, the term "Plaza Terrace" refers to the outside dining area of the Plaza Inn. I have it referenced in Your Guide to Disneyland Fall/Winter 1978-1979 and Disneyland: Your Souvenir Guide for 1984 (4/1984). The 1984 guide says, "Table service on Plaza Terrace during summer months (dinner only)."
ReplyDeleteAlso, the 5% sales tax would appear to date the menu from the late 1960s to the early 1970s (basically as you said!):

The Tahitian Terrace shared the same kitchen with the Plaza Pavilion, on the Adventureland side of the street. Plaza Inn divided into sides in the summer, with the left side staying buffet style (as the PI) and the right side becoming the Plaza Terrace, with a hostess, waiters and the finer foods. Both had inside and outside dining. I worked there in the early 80's. The kitchen was also shared with the Inn Between - for cast members - which is just behind the PI.

ReplyDeleteI had a flash memory of that Hills Brothers menu. I have mentioned elsewhere, that was my Dad's favorite place, we would often have a light breakfast there on entering the park before i was old enough to ride the Matterhorn. After that, I would run ahead to ride that and skip breakfast...
i remember the toast with cream cheese, it sounded so weird to me...now its sounds good...
thanks for a memory!
As a former CM at the Plaza Pavilion in 1980 - I remember the Plaza Inn trying out table service - It was located on the outside patio on the right side of of the PI - Kind of near where the corn dog truck is. I think it didnt do very well - one reason is always was blazing hot there.
ReplyDeleteBut looking at the prices - it does seem pretty cheap - even for 1980! :)
I worked at the Plaza Terrace in 76-78 during the summer and the Inn Between during the winter. When I was 1st hired I worked at Hills Bros for about 3 days before being transferred to the Plaza Terrace Good memories
