It has been a while since I have given Knott's Berry Farm a little love, so I decided to show some souvenir slides from one of my favorite lost rides, Knott's Beary Tales. First off is a shot of some walk around characters outside the ride. I do not remember the walk around characters, but judging from this image, the costumes look fun.
First up is the crafty coyote who is the pie thief in the story.
One of the large set pieces is the balloon at the fair.
The family with the best pies pose for a picture.
Mr. Fox the snake oil medicine sales man.
Wow, these are cool, and must be pretty rare! I really regret that I never got to see this beloved attraction in person.
ReplyDeleteOMG - WOW! I never knew these existed! Darn I sure miss that attraction. Major, you missed a super fun ride!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no frog slides???
Thanks Matterhorn!
Man, I had totally forgotten about this ride. I wish I could remember what the ride vehicles were, and some of the scenes. As a little kid, I wasn't even certain what the storyline was, just that there were a lot of animals and I think I remember it being an unusually short ride?? Never saw the walk-around characters, but I remember seeing photos of them at the time. This was pre-Snoopy and Peanuts, I and think the first costumed characters at Knott's (other than the western face characters of course)
ReplyDeleteJust had a flashback - I think I remember noticing the pie pans in the second photo (satiated fox), were actual Knott's pie tins with the Knott's logo. As a little kid I took notice of those things. Never claimed to be a normal kid.
ReplyDeleteObviously that is a coyote, as Major stated, not a fox. My bad.
ReplyDeleteOK - this is weird - are you and Eppen collaborating psychically?
ReplyDeleteVery nice slides, by the way - I haven't seen this set!
Here's the link to an official site:

There are pics of the ride vehicles and lots of history about the ride.
Very nice pictures! I'll put a link to these on the front page of Bear-ytales.net.

This ride isn't gone, it was purchased and packed away in storage containers. Who knows if it will ever emerge in it's original form though.
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity. When and who?
