Sleeping Beauty Castle Model KABC Channel 7 Promotion
In order to promote the Disneyland Television show and also Disneyland the theme park, the model for Sleeping Beauty Castle and the first Herb Ryman drawing were taken on the road, so to speak. I believe this is an image from the Los Angeles County Fair in 1954 prior to the first Disneyland Television show broadcast. KABC channel 7 is the local ABC affiliate in Los Angeles. I wonder how many people saw the model during its stay at the fair? Or if I am totally off base and the model was only shown at a smaller event such as those that used to happen at the Pan Pacific auditorium? Anyone have a history of the Los Angeles Fair or even a 1954 guide to see if KABC 7 is listed as a participant?

I don't know where this model was displayed, but it looks like lots of kids were interested. Look at all of the handprints on the masonite! Maybe they were greasy from LA County Fair food?
I've seen pictures of a model of the castle at the 64 World's Fair, wonder if it was the same one?
Fantastic image. I want one of those KABC brochures under that classic sign! Nice post!
P.s. The Log ride model was great too, thanks!
Patrick - Is this the same model sitting in the Opera House?
Dave- Yes this is the same model sitting in the Opera House. The model in the Opera House has been restored twice, once in the mid-1990s for the Architecture of Reassurance exhibit and then before the 2005 exhibit at Disneyland.
Los Angeles County Fair, September 17 to October 3, 1954 at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona. KCOP, KTLA, KTTV, and KNBH broadcast shows from the fair, with KCOP covering the fair Monday through Friday 12-2pm. KABC may have had a display in the General Exhibits building, but the 24-page free souvenir program doesn't list exhibitors.
