New York Worlds Fair 1964

Being on the West Coast of things, I do not usually find much from the New York Worlds Fairs. I do find some 1939-1940 fair pictures, but not much from the 1964 version. The following images are all from one family album and shows various trips to the Worlds Fair. I do not know the relationship between the various people. The first image is from the German Beer Garden with the Sinclair Dino Land and US Royal Tires ride in the background. Nice cold Lowenbrau served by a German fraulein...a nice day!

The next two images are of the dinosaurs from the Sinclair Oil attraction. This is one of the attractions I would have loved to see since I have a dinosaur obsession since I was very young.

The next shot is a cold day with the Unisphere in the background.

And this image is from the lagoon in front of the GE Carousel of Progress building.

The final image is from the World of Nations exhibit with the distinctive architecture of the German Beer Garden in the background. The lady looks like she has her own security detail.

These are fun. Wow that lady in the last picture is mesmerizing... I think that security detail is actually stocking her due to the effect her Extreme cat's eye glasses are having on them. I hear Alfred Hitchcock music in the background!

I still think the Carousel of Progress building is neat, and at night, those light on the roof, WOW!

Nice post, Thanks!

Those Sinclair dinos are something else...

I remember the first time I actually saw photos of them. I was struck by a sudden and astonished familiarity: the dinosaur sculptures erected at the Calgary Zoo in the 1980's, which I had grown up with, were exact copies of the sinclair dinos.

As a west coast kid I always thought the kids on the east coast looked strange. Like, they always wore hats and long black coats.

Those Sinclair dinosaurs are now standing at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas ... a park I frequented throughtout my childhood. They helped foster my obsession with dinosaurs.

The profiles of thoe beasts are significant in the landscape of my mind ... they're very much a part of me. I drew sketches of the Tyrannosaurus many many times, and wa always thrilled to visit. I took a group of highschool boys camping there last spring ... It was wonderful to see my old friends again.
